Looking like Pirkis’s “Trooping With Crows” scans might take a little longer, so I’ve started Dumas’s The Wolf-Leader which is mid-Victorian werewolf fiction.

For the time being I’ve gone with the title with a dash. Later versions remove the dash (The Wolf Leader) but as the title is also a named character I think I’ll leave it as is.

Most werewolf art seems to be either modern or 15th century engravings, so it’ll probably be a painting of a normal wolf for a cover. I’ll see what I can find after I’ve read it.

OK, Vince will manage with Lukas reviewing.

There’s an introduction (https://archive.org/details/wolfleader00dumauoft/page/n9/mode/1up) signed “R. S. G.”, but I have no idea who that is. It doesn’t match the translator’s initials at all, and I can’t find anyone major at Methuen at the time who might have written it. It’s not a bad introduction, but it’s only a page.

So: add win metadata with Anonymous, or drop the intro? Thoughts?

A web search says it’s probably Robert Singleton Garnett, who it says provided the introductory notes for The Novels of Alexandre Dumas. Up to you whether to keep it—it doesn’t do anything for me personally; a fourth of it is a quote about a forest from his Memoires. :)

Those scans don’t have a copyright date, though, so you should probably use these instead. They appear to be a later print of the same edition.

Oh right, I should have twigged that this was from a collection. Thanks! I’ve definitely seen worse introductions so I’ll leave it in for the time being, easy to remove later if we decide to. I’ve also rebased the scans you found in to the production.
