Hello

1) Published versions of the Ethan Frome have the following words in italics. I was wondering if I shouldn't put them into quotation marks:

She pronounced the word married as if her voice caressed it.
It made a small frightened cheep like a field mouse...

OR

She pronounced the word "married" as if her voice caressed it.
It made a small frightened "cheep" like a field mouse...

2) How should I treat the presentation of the words on a tombstone? In the published version it is set in small caps center aligned. Should I do the same in our version?

Thanks!

1. Quote but do not italicize "married"; italicize "cheep" using as it is a sound that sounds like a sound.

2. Yes, you can follow the book's example. You can style it like so:

Blah blah blah...

blockquote.tombstone p{

text-align: center;

text-indent: 0;

font-variant: small-caps;
