As my first production, I would like to work on _Democracy and Social Ethics_ by Jane Addams. This was initially discussed in <
https://groups.google.com/g/standardebooks/c/RYjD72PNPrE>, but I have made a new thread to make this production easier to track.
For the transcription, I will use the transcription of the September 1902 edition, <
https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/15487>, which is the only one hosted on Project Gutenberg. The book's credits do not reference any scans, but I found <
https://archive.org/details/cu31924032570180> on the Internet Archive. It was the only scan I found that matched the front and back matter of the PG transcription.
During my search, I also came across <
https://en.wikisource.org/wiki/Democracy_and_Social_Ethics>, which is based on the March 1902 edition, specifically the scan at <
https://archive.org/details/democracysociale00addauoft>. It appears to be a separate transcription effort, so I plan to diff the PG and Wikisource versions to catch probable transcription mistakes.
Here are some other potentially useful scans that I found:
- March 1902
- <

- August 1905
- <

- <

- <

- <
https://archive.org/details/democracyandsoc03addagoog>
- May 1913
- <
https://archive.org/details/democracyandsoc01addagoog>
- July 1915
- <
https://archive.org/details/democracyandsoc02addagoog>
I found most of these with the search <
https://archive.org/search?query=title%3A(Democracy+and+Social+Ethics)&and[]=lending%3A%22is_readable%22&and[]=mediatype%3A%22texts%22>. I don't intend to use them unless there is some sort of problem that I can't solve with the scans that have corresponding transcriptions.
I have finished reading through the Manual of Style (<
https://standardebooks.org/manual/1.8.0>) and the step-by-step instructions (<
https://standardebooks.org/contribute/producing-an-ebook-step-by-step>), and I'll continuously reference them throughout the production process.
Here is the GitHub repository I have created: <
https://github.com/aphedges/jane-addams_democracy-and-social-ethics>. I will periodically push updates, but most will be to a non-default branch because I have a tendency to rebase often. I expect to have a draft pushed to `main` and ready for me to proofread in a couple of weeks.
