[First Project] Maxims and Reflections by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

Hi folks, 

long time SE reader and I'm interested in contributing to this wonderful project. I'm a frontend software developer and have lots of experience with the technical aspects, but none of the titles on the beginner-friendly list tickled my fancy. I found this work by Goethe hasn't been mentioned anywhere and thought I'd get some opinions - does this seem like a suitable first project?

I'm not sure I understand what this work is exactly. I skimmed the
preface and it looks like this is a compilation of thoughts taken from
his works?

Shouldn't we opt to do an omnibus of his actual works, instead of doing
this "best of" compilation by someone else? Or am I misunderstanding
what this book is?

On its own, it's also very short, especially if you exclude the long
preface. Something of this length we'd put in a larger omnibus anyway.

Yeah, fair enough. After digging in a bit more it seems it wasn't published by Goethe directly anyway - still pretty great stuff just not what I expected. But by that logic something like the "Soliloquies" of St. Augustine wouldn't be something to work on either, considering their relative compactness?

I'm just looking for a diving off point to contribute. Unfortunately, it needs to be something I'm personally interested in/want to read for me to keep motivated.

This also looks extremely short, although exceptions can be made for
works from antiquity. But you have to talk to me about what this book
is, how it fits into St Augustine's larger body of work, why it should
be excluded from an omnibus if some kind of omnibus is appropriate for
his short work, etc.
