I remember reading a bunch of Cliff Simak when I was a kid, and there’s enough on Gutenberg to make a reasonable compilation. Leaving aside Empire which is a 50k word novel (might be good for the first production list?) we have a total of 10 shorts to play with. They are:

“The Street That Wasn't There” was co-written with Carl Jacobi. It all looks fairly simple to put together, will pick a suitable abstract painting after the fact, probably from our nicely growing selection on the artworks DB.

Claiming this Geogia O’Keefe that Emma found for this production. I’ve assigned it in the artwork DB.

OK, I think we’re ready for a review on https://github.com/robinwhittleton/clifford-d-simak_short-fiction. A few notes:

  • There’s a couple of unsemantic <i>s that I think are OK as is, but feel free to query them
  • modernize spelling makes a bunch of changes still, but I think the current ones are incorrect
  • There are a couple of editorial changes to fix obvious spelling mistakes in the scans
  • Broadly the Gutenberg transcripts were in good shape, with the biggest problem being missing section breaks in “Project Mastodon” that I reinstated (and reported back)

Looks good. I filed a review with only one notable issue involving the organization of the CSS.
