I'd like to take on this book from the Wanted list if I can.  Below are my PG and scan links.  Thanks!

OK sure. The tough part here will be the sectioning. There are a few
decorative flourish images that you can cut. Also cut 'the end' both
times it occurs.

Emma can you manage this with Lukas reviewing?

Great, thanks all.  Here is my repo link - https://github.com/hlund05/adam-smith_the-theory-of-moral-sentiments

I've learned that the final portion of the text is a standalone essay on a separate topic (Considerations Concerning the First Formation of Languages).  It was first published in 1767 as part of the 3rd edition of this book, and it seems to be included in most (not all) editions, including my scanned copy.  Not urgent,  but I'd appreciate your guidance on whether I should include this or not.

You can keep that section in the production.

Thanks Emma.  I haven't made much progress on the text, as I've been looking into the publication history.  The PG text is from 1777, and in the 1790 edition, Smith made revisions and added an entire new Part 6 to the book.  Since his additions are included in every published edition I have seen post-1800, the PG text is feeling a bit incomplete.

Would it be possible to base my production off one of these transcriptions?

You can use the PG transcription The Essays of Adam Smith (1872) and just use the section on The Theory of Moral Sentiments.

Perfect, I'll move forward with that PG version.  For reference, here are the new links I'll be following:

Hi Emma,

I’ve noticed that the author makes parenthetical references to other works in several spots (2 examples quoted below).  Should I make changes to modernize these references (e.g., “See Plato’s Republic, Book IV”), or should I simply italicize the abbreviated book titles and otherwise leave these alone?

“See Plato de Rep. lib. iv…”
“According to Aristotle (Ethic. Nic. lib. ii ch. 1, 2, 3, and 4.)…”

Thanks for your thoughts on this.
