As a first project, I would like to work on Robur the Conqueror by Jules Verne off of the Wanted Ebooks list.

Link to Project Gutenberg: https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/3808

I would like to address a potential copyright issue with this work. The referenced translation on the Wanted Ebooks list to which these scans correspond was published in 1951, whereas the original work was published in 1886. I assume that since the book and chosen translation were on the list that this edition has already been verified as suitable for reproduction, but I need to be certain before I begin work.

Cheers,
Davis

Great, that one would be a good start.

This has been attempted several times and abandoned. Please search the
mailing list for the previous threads, and review the discussion there
to see if there were any special gotchas.

Re. translation, books on PG are assumed to be in the public domain. The
page scans we link are a reprint of the transcription hosted at PG,
which is translated by Sampson Low, Marston, Searle, & Rivington (which
is the name of a publisher and not four different people). So those
scans are also PD despite them having a later publication date listed.

Make sure to use the --translator flag to se create-draft, but make the
translator one single "contributor" as it's the name of the publishing
company.

Make sure to read the Standard Ebooks Manual of Style before starting,
as you won't know what to fix if you haven't read the standards. In
particular, please closely review the semantics, high level patterns,
and typography sections:

https://standardebooks.org/manual

https://standardebooks.org/manual/latest/4-semantics

https://standardebooks.org/manual/latest/7-high-level-structural-patterns

https://standardebooks.org/manual/latest/8-typography

The step by step guide will take you from start to finish. Please follow
it exactly:

https://standardebooks.org/contribute/producing-an-ebook-step-by-step

This page on common issues in older books may be useful:

https://standardebooks.org/contribute/how-tos/common-issues-when-working-on-public-domain-ebooks

Please email often if you have any questions at all. Our standards are
well-established so there is probably already a standard for formatting
whatever problem you've encountered.

When you're ready, email back with a link to your Github repository so
that I can assign you a manager and reviewer.

Have fun! :)
