Hello. For my next project I would like to tackle The First Men in the Moon, by H. G. Wells. This has been on my list for a while, and I think it is time to finally work on it.

There are two transcriptions at PG, and I think the newest one is better. Overall, it doesn't seem to be a particularly difficult production, the text being regular prose.

One surprisingly difficult part, however, is finding a suitable cover. The Moon isn't the subject of as many paintings as one would think, so finding a good one is quite challenging. One possible artwork is Copenhagen Harbor by Moonlight, by Johan Christian Dahl. I annexed a cover crop. Do you think it fits?

Can I work on it?

Unrelated, but I noticed that A High Wind in Jamaica is on the wanted list as "transcription required". Just today PG published a transcription.

Just on the cover, I remember finding a John Atkinson Grimshaw at YCBA; he was known especially for his night paintings, and PD examples are hard to come by. I didn't turn up any Grimshaws, but these three popped up in a search:
Probably none is an improvement on what you've got already, but thought I'd mention them. Perhaps they're worth getting into the DB anyway.

Thank you David. The second and third painting you linked might actually be better, since they be cropped to show just the Moon. I'll do mock-ups of them in the evening to see how they look.

OK, please send a repo link.

If this is a sci fi work then we should avoid art that shows old cities.
You could use an abstract cover like we do for other sci fi.

I'll update High Wind in Jamaica, thanks!

Here's my repo.

There is a short epigraph in the titlepage, which is a quote of Lucian. Do we want to keep it?

This is the kind of book that doesn't have an obvious choice for cover, so I might have to use an abstract painting.

Ok!

Two questions:

1 - In page 332 there is multi-paragraph dialog that has a non-dialog paragraph (within brackets) in the middle. The bracketed paragraph informs that there is a break of a few words in the speech, what do you think is the proper way to deal with this? Just add an ignore rule, or add closing quotations to the previous paragraph? I think the first option is the correct one, but I'm not sure.

2 - In page 338 in the scans, there is a paragraph after a blockquote that starts with a lowercase letter and is not indented; in the text, it is supposed to be speech that begins in the middle of a sentence. I'm not sure what is the proper procedure here, do we add a "continued" class, change it to uppercase or just leave it as is (with an ignore rule)?

1. You can just add an ignore rule.
2. I would personally add an ellipse to the beginning of the quotation in an editorial commit.

I'm about to finish this production. For the cover, if my previous suggestion isn't adequate (the plot involves two British men leaving England for the Moon, so I think this painting isn't completely bad), then I'll follow Alex's suggestion and use an abstract painting. I'm thinking this one (for no particular reason, simply because this is an abstract work). What do you think?

My only reservation is that the tower by the moon is pretty obviously Vor Frelsers Kirke. Well, pretty obvious to me I guess; I don’t live too far away though. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Church_of_Our_Saviour%2C_Copenhagen

In the long description you write:

This is ungrammatical. Do you meant to say that Wells professES eugenic
and socialist ideas in this book? Or that the Victorians professED those
ideas and Wells is criticizing them?
