Hello,

I've been enjoying reading offerings from Standard Ebooks and now I'm interested in creating an ebook.

Scans

The 1928 scan includes an introduction and notes that the Gutenberg text doesn't include. Which version should I use as the basis?

Cheers,
Sylvia

Hi Sylvia, se word-count lists this book as being about 38k words in
length, which is under our minimum for individual books, 40k words. So
we would prefer to put this book into a "short fiction" omnibus as a
novella. It looks like Gale wrote a lot of short fiction so that might
be a good second or third project if you'd like to do that research.

Maybe you'd like to start on one of her slightly longer novels first?

I wonder if you want to waive the length restriction on this one. This book was quite a sensation. It spawned both a hit Broadway play and a major motion picture, recently restored (https://silentfilm.org/event/miss-lulu-bett/). It was a cultural touchstone. It would be a shame to bury it in a collection, making it hard to find. And 38k rounds to 40k, no?

No, notoriety has nothing to do with how works are organized. We have
Murder in the Rue Morgue in an omnibus, and that short story was without
a doubt much more influential than this novella.

It's possible to search our catalog on our website by short story name.
Being in an omnibus does not make it harder to find.

(Although now that I try searching for that, it seems to be a bug I have
to fix...)
