New spreadsheets

Hello. While considering future projects, I decided to make some spreadsheets with links to the transcriptions and scans of some authors, to facilitate the work of anyone who wishes to work in omnibuses (omnibi?). I don't if it will be useful, but I just wanted to share:

Hans Christian Anderson (I couldn't find the scans for some of the stories in PG).

Rudyard Kipling (A few stories require transcription, but most already have.)

Sabine Baring-Gould (There many more works in both short prose and poetry for this author, but I haven't found transcriptions yet.)

If I end up making more I'll share with the project.

“Andersen's Fairy Tales” is likely this 1956 book:

At least the table of contents matches the Gutenberg list of short stories.

Since it was published after 1929, that particular book is probably not public domain, but I think all of the stories were previously published. This earlier work had most (all?) of the stories, though some of them have different titles (and probably other changes, too):

Robin's work in Frank Long's stories inspired me to actually work on some of the spreadsheets I started a while ago. Here are some more:

Nelson S. Bond - Short Fiction

Marion Zimmer Bradley - Short Fiction

Paul Laurence Dunbar - Poetry | Short Fiction

F. Scott Fitzgerald - Short Fiction (I already worked many of these stories in the omnibus, but some still lack transcription)

Jonas Lie - Short Fiction

Katherine MacLean - Short Fiction

Katherine Mansfield - Short Fiction

Mary de Morgan - Short Fiction

I already liked these three, but I didn't realize at the time that I chose to publish in web instead of giving reading permission to everyone with the link, these should be better now:

Rudyard Kipling - Short Fiction

Sabine Baring-Gould - Short Fiction

Hans Christian Andersen - Short Fiction

Thanks for doing these Hendrik. It looks like the stories from Katherine Mansfield's 1924 collection Something Childish and Other Stories could be added to the spreadsheet for her short fiction. That collection was published in the US under the title The Little Girl and Other Stories, and it's in production at PG under that second title, currently at F1.

I made the PR. I never added anything to an website source code, but I think I got right. I couldn't open the test as described in the GitHub page, likely because I missed a step in the guide, so I'll try again later.

I don't claim that any of these list have the entirety of the works of each author, of course, am plan to keep updating them as I find more relevant productions. If any one of you want to contribute to the spreadsheets (or do the omnibus) please just request access.

OK, well we do want them to be complete spreadsheets, otherwise they
would not be of much use. If they're incomplete and someone tries to
make an omnibus then we're in trouble.

We don't necessarily *need* transcriptions, at the basic level we simply
need to know a complete overview of the author's corpus so that we can
decide how to organize things in our ebooks.

You already made a PR to include the spreadsheets, you just have to fix
the merge conflict. Then you can update the spreadsheets as you get to
them, no further PRs are needed.

I made a few more spreadsheets:

Short Fiction - Fyodor Dostoevsky: One story, “Another Man's Wife and a Husband Under the Bed” was not included in the list because is a merge between two other stories, so we probably don't want it (or we do and don't want the other two).

Short Fiction - Charles Beaumont: Only three stories believed to be PD.

Short Fiction - Sarah Orne Jewett: Several stories available, and several requiring transcriptions.

Short Fiction - Saki

Short Fiction - Mary Shelley

Short Fiction - Bram Stoker: Some of the stories are only available in txt form, and I'm yet to find scans for most of them.

Short Fiction - Rabindranath Tagore: This author has a complex publication history, with several stories being translated more than once with different titles, so I also added a column with the Bengali title, and tried to identify all variants. The translator of some isn't clear. The stories that I think are viable for a production now are highlighted in yellow.

If you think these are interesting I can make a PR. I'm always looking for interesting omnibuses production, and will share any spreadsheets I make.

I have 199 total entries in my Saki spreadsheet. I actually did share it at the time it was discussed (I’d forgotten that), but it never made it to the repository.

Some of the entries won’t qualify for short fiction, including the Alice items you have marked, and some of the others are essays from the war and other things that won’t qualify for short fiction, either. Some of them are only available in newspapers that are behind a paywall, and so we won’t actually know whether they qualify or not until (or if) we get the text.

I’ll try to update mine and submit it in the next week or three.

I think the other helpful column to have is their word count. That's the
main criteria for deciding if it goes in an omnibus or not.

You can make a PR against the spreadsheets list to include them all.

We have Saki on our wanted list, so you two should merge your lists and
open a PR to add the final list to the spreadsheets page. Then, I can

I agree that word-count is useful. I think I'll add it over time, since it will likely take time, and I don't have access to my personal pc most of my days now.
