Decided that instead of waiting for “Trooping with Crows” to turn up for the Pirkis Short Fiction compilation, I’d quickly tackle A Bride of a Summer’s Day as its own 47K word novel. Repo is here: https://github.com/robinwhittleton/catherine-louisa-pirkis_a-bride-of-a-summers-day, and scans are at https://archive.org/details/sim_all-the-year-round_1891-06-27_5_130. I’m currently halfway through proofreading.

As we used Manet for Loveday Brooke I had a look at other Manets for this, and In the Conservatory sticks out. I’ve uploaded it to https://standardebooks.org/artworks/edouard-manet/in-the-conservatory. Cover ends up looking like this:

OK, this is ready for a review (though obviously with no assigned reviewer so I’ll let Alex assign someone first). Notes:

  • I found a fair few transcription errors here but I think I’ve covered them all: I double-checked each hyphen, ran multiple spellcheck sweeps, and proofread as well as possible.
  • One non-soundalike editorial change: “Kilos” -> “Kilometres”. Kilos in modern usage only refers to kilograms, so it was potentially confusing in context.
  • Apart from that, a simple short novel with just the usual letters and verse.

I’ll continue now with the Short Fiction compilation.

No management needed, it’s ready for review (it really is a short novel). So over to Vince then.

All reviews should be so quick, just a few trivial items.

I’ve addressed all Vince’s review points apart from one that we need your adjudication on Alex: should I drop the kilos -> kilometres commit or not?

Hmm... it's not really sound alike and the meaning can be discerned from
context, so while I don't think it's a big deal we should probably just
drop it.
