My next project will be to continue on the George Bernard Shaw plays with Misalliance.
It seems like a fairly standard Shaw production, with his linguistic oddities and all. The play is in a single act (though I think intermissions were inserted for performance, they are not mentioned in the text), with some together dialog formatting.

There is one outstanding question, which is of the potential preface. Shaw wrote a hundred page, 39k word treatise on "Parents and Children," which he published in a volume before Misalliance, The Dark Lady of the Sonnets, and Fanny's First Play. PG has decided that this treatise is not to be included in the text of Misalliance, which makes some sense, as it is separated from the text of the play in the volume by the table of contents. However, that same table of contents does seem to indicate that it should be included with Misalliance rather than considered a thing unto itself. Should I include it in the production?

OK, Emma will manage this with Weijia reviewing.

If the preface was published in a volume with several other plays,
what's to say that it belongs to any of them?

Does it have something particular to do with Misalliance? If not then we
can just cut it.

It's hard to tell, frankly. I've just found that PG actually does have a transcription, but as a separate production, which is an example I would be very happy to follow. The strongest argument for its inclusion is probably its positioning in the table of contents of the volume, but it's worth noting that this table of contents comes after the preface and shows Misalliance starting after it too, while for the other plays it considers them to start when their prefaces start, so that might not actually be an argument for inclusion.

It's also not clear to me that it's particularly thematically related to the play itself, which seems to have more to do with marriage than parenting. In Getting Married, the preface had to do with the thematic material of the play, and for Man and Superman, the treatise included was diegetic, having been written by one of the characters.

Let's cut it for now, we can always add it later if someone comes up
with a convincing argument.

Fantastic.

Is this an acceptable crop of that painting for the cover? The goal is to show an airplane falling out of the sky, a strikingly difficult thing to find a painting of.

Question for Emma: this has both CAPS and <i> used to give emphasis - can I combine them both into <em> or should I use <em> and <strong> to differentiate them? I think that <i> is only used for the word "I" which can't be distinguished through caps.

1. The cover is OK, but there is another painting in the art db of airplanes that might be a better fit (The Enemy Crashed to the Earth in a Column of Flame and Smoke).

2. Can you send a page scan link showing the caps and italics?

Oh, that's a much better cover. I'll happily claim that image, please.

Here are some page scans for the caps and italics:

1. I've updated the art db.

2. This seems to be part of the author's unique writing style. Use <em> and <strong> to differentiate them.

I know that the answer to the following question is "it's not part of the MoS," but I'm wondering about whether it would be appropriate to add a premiere date as well as a publishing date to the colophon for plays. This play was premiered in 1910, but wasn't published until 1914, as far as I can tell; the former date is relevant to the work, as it is set in 1909. Certainly not an essential thing to add, but perhaps a nice one.

No, but you can make a note of it in the long description.

OK, I've finished proofing this. There's a manual review note left in lint, which I think is correct as it stands, but would appreciate a second opinion on that.

Alex, upon reading the play, it seems that the preface about children and parents definitely has some degree of relevance to the play itself; the title is specifically referenced. However, I still don't think that that means that it should be inserted, as it seems to be a much broader treatise than the other prefaces that are included in the published volumes and, again, PG considers it a separate production. I think that it would be more appropriate to include it in an omnibus of Shaw's essays than as a preface here, but I do note that my opinion of that is probably coloured by the fact that I have no interest in proofing all 39k words of it. I think the key argument against its inclusion is that the average reader of this play is probably unlikely to want to read it.

Assuming that we're still excluding the treatise, this is now ready for review.

Regarding the lint error, this is one of the rare occasions where the title contains punctuation. You can add a `se-lint-ignore.xml` file for this issue.
