Are RStan and ShinyStan tested against Linux? Some of the students
at the tutorial last week were having problems with Ubuntu 14.04 with
gcc 4.8.4. After getting through the missing rcurl issues there were
various issues getting Boost to compile for some and one who was
able to compile everything had trouble with ShinyStan erring out with
out-of-bounds errors (I saw the same error in OS X but fixed it by
updating ShinyStan after updating RStan to 2.10.1). Stale R files
not being cleared from previous installs?

It is tested but there can be problems with incomplete uninstalls and / or people choosing "yes" when R asks whether you want to save your workspace to a file that gets autoloaded the next time you start R and may contain objects created by an earlier version of Stan.

Although it is not tested much with versions of g++ less than 5. In this case, I believe it should work but Rcpp and RcppEigen need to be compiled with the same compiler and flags. The toolchain / OS combos known to work on CRAN are
