Dear shinyStan-Team,

First off, great tool and I'd like to use it for a project I just started working on, in order to make my data and my analysis available on my website - great stuff! I tried installing shinyStan today, but got the following error message:

ERROR: dependency 'htmlwidgets' is not available for package 'threejs'
* removing 'C:/Users/PViefers/Documents/R/win-library/3.1/threejs'
Error: Command failed (1)
In addition: Warning message:
package ‘htmlwidgets’ is not available (for R version 3.1.2)

I am running R under Windows using Revolution R Open 8.0.1 beta

R version 3.1.2 (2014-10-31)
Platform: x86_64-w64-mingw32/x64 (64-bit)

(...)

attached base packages:
[1] stats     graphics  grDevices utils     datasets  methods   base

loaded via a namespace (and not attached):
[1] tools_3.1.2

Thanks for your help,
Paul

PS: I hope this is the right place to ask, because it rejected the tag 'shinyStan'.

Hi Paul,

You can either ask here or post an issue on the shinyStan github repository: https://github.com/stan-dev/shinystan

I've added a tag for 'shinyStan' on the stan-users list, so you should be able to use that tag in the future.

Thanks for helping diagnose installation problems.

What happens when you just do

install.packages("htmlwidgets")

?

It throws the same error as in the message posted above:

Warning in install.packages :
package ‘htmlwidgets’ is not available (for R version 3.1.2)

I did a quick search on CRAN and the package is listed, so that's weird, right?

Yes, that is weird. Perhaps try a different mirror with chooseCRANmirror()

Yes, I tried that and now it runs just fine. Sorry for the confusion, seems that some CRAN mirrors do not have packages available for certain versions.... first time I hear that.

Thanks Ben!

Sorry you had that problem Paul, but I'm glad it got cleared up (thanks Ben). I'm not sure why that happened with the CRAN mirrors. It never even occurred to me that they would differ like that.

I'm working on a troubleshooting sections for the shinyStan wiki on github and I'll add this issue as well as the solution.

Paul, do you know which mirror didn't have the right htmltools version and which one you switched to that ended up working?

Jonah,
Absolutely no need to apologize, it's a great tool and I am happy to test it and in case report minor problems... really, it wasn't shinyStan's fault here.

Now for the mirror, I unfortunately changed it before checking which one I was using, but if I had to guess it was Berlin (softliste.de) because that used to be closest to my location. I now use University of Münster's and that worked.

To check that I removed htmlwidgets again and cycled through all mirrors in Germany (there only four) to replicate the error- nothing. They all work, maybe I changed the mirror while I was abroad and had to install a package, but then I really don't know a way how to trace which mirror it was. Can you infer that somehow from the installed packages maybe?

Best,
Paul

Thanks for your willingness to help! I'm not sure about identifying the mirror after the fact. I'll find out, but either way no worries. Glad it's up and running for you now.

No need to track down the mirror. I believe the RStudio
one and the one in Vienna are usually up to date.
