Hello all,

PyStan almost has a Debian package. Using the package would eliminate the
lengthy Stan compilation step. My hope is to get the package done and included
in the Debian repository before the Ubuntu LTS release in the spring. This may
or may not be a realistic goal.

If anyone knows a Debian packager/developer I would appreciate an off-list email
with any tips on getting through the administrative steps. I know there's
a bunch of GPG/PGP key signing steps that need to happen.

Best,

Allen

Ross Boylan (who is active on stan-users) was thinking about packaging Stan for Debian. If that were to happen, then packaging PyStan or RStan wouldn't be terribly difficult, I don't think.

Packaging involved doing bunch of things that the developer guides said
should not be attempted by a novice. In general the structure of the
system is a bit odd, since it involves compiling executables as part of
run time.

It was starting to look like a big project, and so it's moved down my
priority queue.

I certainly understand. I don't see how a python-pystan Debian package would avoid the same fate though.
