Hi all,

We've just released the newest version (v2.9.0) of the Stan and Stan Math libraries (v2.9.0)!

Some of the new features in this release:
- General R-like indexing for arrays and vectors!
- Changed unit_vector transformation
- Better adaptation for ADVI
- New core developer member: Krzysztof Sakrejda.

For more details about this particular release, please see the full release notes: https://github.com/stan-dev/stan/releases/tag/v2.9.0

The first interface to have the latest features is CmdStan. The release of CmdStan should be compatible with Stan.jl, MatlabStan, and StataStan.

RStan and PyStan will follow shortly.

P.S. The generalized indexing is really cool. Check out Chapter 5 in the v2.9.0 version of the manual: https://github.com/stan-dev/stan/releases/download/v2.9.0/stan-reference-2.9.0.pdf

Great stuff! The generalized indexing is really welcome, particularly the fact we can apply it to the left hand side.

Back in a post on Andrew's blog in October Bob stated "The next minor release of Stan (2.9) should stop the freezing issue when parameters wander into regions of parameter space that lead to stiff ODEs." Did that happen? I couldn't spot it in the list of changes.

Thanks,
Bill

Alas, no, we're still waiting to clear up the
intellectual property issues. We may just wind
up rewriting it all for the next release. Daniel?

That's the plan! If the IP issues didn't exist, we definitely would have gotten it in.

I'm hoping we solve the installation of CVODE by then too. I'm sure that'll solve a lot of problems and introduce some others.
