Would LOVE to know how the hell to decrease the percentage of hound attacks by 90%. Any mod suggestions. I'm new so i don't know if its just me but everytime 2 hounds attack i always die and have to start over and gets me mad

Wear armor. Learn to dodge attacks. And as minespatch said, lead hounds to beefalo. Don't walk near the beefalo if they have red butts, go around instead and let the hounds make the mistake of approaching the beefalo when they try to cut corners. As for the tentacle suggestion... wear armor if you try that.

No one's suggested a tooth trap field, so I'll drop that in here. If you're having trouble with just 2 then go to beefalo and let them take care of it. Make some tooth traps though, seriously, they're very good.

I think they just add unnecessary repetitiveness to an already repetition heavy game. There's plenty of other mechanics that teach players the same thing without disrupting gameplay every 30 minutes.

Of course it does. I'm just saying that if he already isn't a fan of hound waves then there's no shame in setting it to less. He shouldn't totally turn it off, but it also doesn't need to be the focus of his time spent playing.

I turned hounds off for my first dozen or so games in vanilla single-player, while I figured out the basics and what I wanted to do in the game. You can work your way up to default as you get the hang of it.

The first rule and hard lesson DST taught me is to never face anything without armor: even a grass suit makes a huge difference. Armor is essential, specially in the early days when you are still getting a hang of the game.

Hounds will be slowed down by the stickiness and you wont, allowing you to have a running advantage, and the spiders will aggro the unfortunate doggies and will take care of them for you. You can mostly do this for free up until the first summer, when fire hounds will burn your dens (if you are unprepared for the fire that is).

Instead of circumventing the problem why not look for a solution on how do safely defeat them? Sine you said you have problems with just 2 shouldn't be that hard. The trick is to finish them off one by one as soon as one spawns, else if they get to make a group will be harder and harder as world progresses so if you didn't get to master ways to defeat them then use a field of tooth traps like suggested above a few times.

I'm pretty critical of summer smolder and hound attacks. I still play the game with the default settings - but I wouldn't fault anyone for simply turning these features off. Hound attacks start out okay but after 100 days or so they get pretty obnoxious. Its not about difficulty as much as it creates a tedious time management mini-game based on constant assaults. I want to do Bee Queen - okay, wait for a hound attack first, then run to bee queen. It just gets in the way of the game.

I think the caves have it right. The mob that attacks is dangerous but can be managed without needing to set up multiple defense death traps across the world, and the rate of assault is low enough that when one happens you're actually a bit surprised and have the added challenge of depth worms on top of whatever you were doing. I never have "hounds +" anything on the surface. Its "wait for hounds then..." Not as fun really :\

If Klei ever makes another major overhaul to the game (new content, character balance, ect) they should include season re-balance and the hound attacks in the to-do list. Remake them into something more engaging that you experience with other elements of the game rather than oppressive elements that lead you to completely avoid them. Maybe go the way of the AntLion where you are given the challenge, and a few ways to deal with it. You can accept the danger and avoid rock falls / sinkholes, or eliminate them by giving tributes to appease him, or kill him. So maybe if you hunt / kill Varg you will not get hound attacks for the next 20 days, and summer smolder only exists while DFly is alive? idk

That was kind of stupid : when you jump into a Worm Hole, you have a small animation, like half a second, maybe less... But durign that small animation, hounds already got on me, and they started to bite me. It canceled the jump animation and i wasn't able to escape through the Hole. And I died.

You can jump into a wormhole while being chased by hounds but make sure you have enough of a lead to make up for the jumping animation. What you can do is camp near the wormhole when you know that hounds are approaching and when you hear them running towards you, jump into the worm hole.

Of course, it would be better to take care of them rather than run away. What you can do is equip your armor (grass suit but preferably, I'd recommend a log suit. You need a science machine to craft it: 2 rope and 8 logs) and your weapon and when you see a hound, charge it and dispatch it quickly, do this for the succeeding hounds. If you have friends playing with you, take out the hounds chasing them as their attention will be away from you. Do this too with hounds chasing you.

There are a lot more ways to handle hounds. But yeah, wormhole and jumping: don't jump in when they're right behind you. Go somewhere else like a beefalo herd or pigs, they should take care of the hounds for you.

My friends and I have been lucky, we found a place near a large group of Beefallos, probably twelve at the same spot. We often use them to take care of the hounds for us. But I was really far away and completely unstuff, that's why i tried this... I will never do that again, for sure !

Thats normal. I was killed by a hound in that way even in the vanilla version, in together is worst because you have a little delay (depending of your connection) making impossible escape through a wormhole with fast creatures, I still waiting for a smoke bomb item for quick escapes. Excuse my bad english too ;D

There are more reasons to not adopt siblings (and some workarounds, too) in this article by WDJ Training Editor Pat Miller, and I listed all of them to this family. They listened, heard me, and ended up adopting one of the two females in the litter that strongly resembled a purebred Rhodesian Ridgeback. They named her Xena.

2. They are in the process of building a new house on a rural property. Frequently, the dad stays in the not-quite-finished house and the mom stays at their old house in a nearby town. This gives them an easy way to easily and frequently separate the pups for a night or day during this critical socialization period.

I adopted two German Shepherd puppies from the same litter. They were wonderful. The down side to doing this is that the end of their lives comes at about the same time. These dogs lived to 13 1/2 and 13 3/4 respective. But to lose two beloved dogs so close together was horrible.

My husband and I are experienced dog owners. After losing two dogs in less than 2 months we decided to adopt a brother and sister Rottweiler We did not hear of the caution of adopting siblings until after we did it.

There are different rules and regulations in each state, and some have dog number limits for pursuing game. Maine, Vermont, and New Hampshire have six-dog limits for running hounds on bear. If the houndsman that has now gotten you hooked, and with your own pup, has six or more of his own dogs, he will have to leave some of his own hounds home so you can take yours. This is a hard task for any houndsman as they have been putting time, feed, and energy into their own, and making the decision to leave theirs home to take yours should not go without many thanks. Most houndsmen I know get their truest pleasure in watching their own dogs progress and excel, so letting someone else bring their dog or dogs along and leaving some of his home, so as to not exceed that limit, is a kind and selfless action.

My boyfriend and I are planning on moving in together in the near future and I am curious as to the best way to get his dog and my cat accustomed to one another. My cat has never been around dogs except one time and he really freaked out. His hair stood on end and he tried to hide. My boyfriend's dog is very mellow and is already accustomed to living with cats so she's not really the problem.

Should I try separating the two for a bit? Or should we just put them in the house/apartment together and let them work things out on their own? I think my cat would adjust fairly quickly, but I don't really know.

I volunteer at an animal shelter, and this is a very common question. The relationship takes time to build, and you need to be patient and willing to follow the steps necessary to make it work. It sounds like you are ready for this and really want it to work. This is the first step needed. So, thank you for caring about your animals. Here are some steps to follow:

Ideally, these steps should occur before the dog moves into the house, since this will take some time. If you rush the process, they may never be "friends." Also, as @Frisbee alluded, you will need a couple tall cat trees (at least 6 ft tall or taller), so your cat can get away from the dog when he wants.

Despite the stereotype, many dogs and cats learn to live together peacefully. Be patient and take the introduction process slowly, but know that whether or not your pets get along will also depend on their individual personalities. Follow these steps to maximize the chances of success.

The idea is to teach them to associate the presence of the other pet with pleasant things, such as food. With each feeding, move their food bowls a little closer to the closed door. Continue this process until each pet can eat calmly right next to the door.
