The street consists of two sections: a western section running between Nathan Road and Chatham Road South, which runs almost parallel to Kimberley Road, Cameron Road and Kimberley Street. This section was built in the late 19th century. The eastern section runs between Chatham Road and Science Museum Road, which was built by extending the original western portion to Tsim Sha Tsui East via reclamation. A public square called Granville Square in Tsim Sha Tsui East was named after the road.
Two of Hong Kong's main public museums, Hong Kong Museum of History and Hong Kong Science Museum, are located on the eastern stretch of Granville Road. Kowloon Park is located towards the western end of Granville Road.
Shopping centre The ONE, and its predecessor Tung Ying Building, are located on the corner between Granville Road and Nathan Road. The private gallery Hong Kong 3D Museum is in Hilton Place on the eastern stretch of Granville Road.
The area east of Nathan Road, comprising Cameron Road, Granville Road and Carnarvon Road has been described as having "teeming shops" and likely the main reason that Hong Kong acquired the "shopping paradise" tag, a phrase first put into print in an ironic manner by author Han Suyin,[2] in her 1952 novel A Many-Splendoured Thing.

The view of East Dublin Granville Road (Rt. 161) in the winter shows clearly the rural nature of Worthington around 1900. The unpaved road is marked with buggy and wagon tracks, while the orchard on the left has now been replaced by houses. The railroad tracks are just beyond the rise in the background.

Working in close coordination with landscape architects Callaway & Associates, Acanthus proposed renovations, new buildings, site walls and hardscaping to both punctuate and complement the extensive gardens on the property.
New architectural elements that help define, highlight and accentuate the landscape include a paved motor court enclosed by a brick wall at the property line north of the existing house, a secondary entry wing for the home, and a two story structure with garage bays flanking a broad entrance gateway to the pool beyond. The top floor of this building contains a private guest suite that affords views of the pool and the gardens to the south. A temple front pavilion with sitting room, kitchen, and bath terminates the axis at the far end of the pool. Buckingham slate roofing was used on these buildings to match the roof of the existing home, which is just one of the ways Acanthus ensured that the entire site blends seamlessly.
The rear elevation of the house was transformed into a garden front to take advantage of the magnificent landscaping. A new bluestone terrace anchored by a dramatic fireplace was added and an underused screen porch was converted into a sundrenched living room with a roof deck accessed from the master suite.
