Hypoxia is common in C.V stroke patients and monitoring of Sp02 by pulse oximetry should be done in the acute phase. Many a time, it is felt that physical changes on the affected side or i.v. infusions may alter oximeter readings. Thirty patients 18 men [60%], 12 women [40%]; 19 left hemiparesis [63.33%], 11 right hemiparesis [36.66%]; were recruited. The maximum difference between simultaneous left and right arm readings was 1% Sp02. Heart rate fluctuated more, but no affected/non-affected side pattern was seen. Mean Sp02 was 95% on both sides. Mean HR was 82 bpm on both sides. There was no significant difference between the two sides for either parameter.
