subtitle encoding

what encoding MAG250 using for DVB subtitles and can it be changed somehow?
I do convert subs from teletext to dvb subs track with VLC, and it works fine, but MAG do not show any special characters. Instead of öäü is pair of unknown letters, probably from russian alphabet. I did try do alter encoding from the VLC but no effect. Does someone have any experience about the teletext subtitles in MAG250?

It looks like a the problem with the font.

Try to add in /c/player.js after 

stb.SetMicVolume(100);

line

stb.SetSubtitlesFont("/usr/lib/fonts/Ubuntu.ttf");

Im sorry if I hijack your thread with a non-stalkerMW question, but please share how you transcode teletext subtitles to dvb subtitles!

It would be so helpful. Ive been working with it for days without success.

It works if i transcode the videostream as well, and vlc burns the subs in to the pictures correctly with the following command:
cvlc -vvv udp://@233.0.0.34:6010 --vbi-page=199 --sout '#transcode{vcodec=mp2v,vb=8192,soverlay,scodec=dvbs,senc=dvbsub}:udp{mux=ts,dst=233.0.0.120:6010}'

This takes a LOT of CPU though, and I can make MAG250 identify the DVB-subtitles if i do the following:

cvlc -vvv udp://@233.0.0.34:6010 --vbi-page=199 --sout '#transcode{scodec=dvbs,senc=dvbsub}:udp{mux=ts,dst=233.0.0.120:6010}' 

the problem is that MAG 250 does not display anything at all.

I get the following error message from VLC when the text is supposed to be displayed:

"dvbsub encoder error: chroma RGBA not supported"

So I guess the problem is in VLC, but I just want to know how you done it. I may be on the wrong track.

will add subtitles without re-encoding the video. At least with VLC version 1.1.13 I use.

The fact, that wrong symbols appearing in pairs shows that this is most likely a encoding problem, not just a wrong symbols in font. I think, that VLC sends dvbs encoded to UTF-8, but MAG250 shows something else. Because the first 128 characters of UTF-8 correspond one-to-one with ASCII (and that part is showing sorrectly), but all above that is encoded with longer byte sequences what make them show as pair of letters. Question is, how to change MAG250 subtitles to UTF-8?

In fact, as I found out, DVB subtitles is just a bitmap. Try to play your stream in VLC and you should see the exact same wrong symbols.

If so, then the problem is in VLC or in the incorrect transcoding options.

nope, just tested. Dont know hot this is possible, but same stream played with VLC shows äöü, only some "very sepecial" like õ is missing, but this is tolerable.
I took photo about PC monitor with VLC, and TV with MAG250 side by side playing same stream, and if you like, I can send it to you to prove my point.

I dont think that #transcode{scodec=subt} generated DVB-subtitles. In fact, it seems like it do generate teletext subtitles, but for some reason, MAG250 identifies the subs! There seem to be different kind of teletext subtitles, and MAG250 can handle the kind that VLC generates with subt.

So the question is more what encoding MAG250 use to encode teletext subtitles, and how to change it? Can there be a problem with locale in the box? Or is the problem in stbapp?
 Thanks for the string btw, it works, but I have the exact same problem with åäö. The stream work with VLC if you use standard UTF8 encoding for subtitles, but MAG250 does not encode correctly.

Please make dump of this stream (using dumprtp or dumpstream) and sent it to us. We will try to figure out what is wrong.

cmore15mb.ts is the raw stream from the satelite. 

dumpemo.ts is the stream with the transcoded subtitles that MAG 250 can display (But not correctly encode) All special characters that work with VLC is just displayed as random symbols in the MAG250.

It seems that these files are corrupted. At least they do not play in VLC.

Try to make a zip archive of them.

Yes, the main problem is in the subtitles encoding. For now player expect win-1251.

If it is possible, we will automatically detect encoding.

But you must understand that this will be fix in firmware, so it will not be quick.

I understand it may take a while to sort out.
Can you give me an estimation of how long it might take?

I tried to change the .qmap and .qm files to swedish keymap and locale in /usr/share/qt-4.6.0/ in the box, but it didnt work.
I also tried loadkmap directly in the box without sucess.
May it be stbapp thats compiled without UTF8 encoding?

But does it have to do with your stbapp, or is it in the embedded OS? If the problem lays in the embedded OS, and we knew where to look for the problem, it would be possible to sort it out our selves.

We released a new firmware version. It has a changes in the subtitles processing.

Try to update to 0.2.16-beta (use autoupdate in embeded portal) and check again subtitles encoding.
