1) Can you help me identify if these images are legit LSI 9300-8i? In Windows its a Avago (yes I know they bought Broadcom and they in turn bought LSI). I just want to make sure its actually a legit HBA from a legit company. Or even maybe Avago manufactured as it was still brand new.

2) When updating the firmware and bios there is an option to flash the signed bios, is this advisable or not? Are there any repercussions if I sign the signed drivers for if I use this controller elsewhere in the future? OR would unRAID prefer it to be unsigned?

This should result in a file of 256 Bytes. I'd like to have a look at what's inside to compare it to SBRs used on other controllers with SAS3008 chipset from LSI (and possilbe fakes), as well as other manufacturers.

I'm sorry to hear. But thank you anyway for the information, it's quite useful together with to pictures you had uploaded. Unless there's new information from the Broadcom support, I'll keep my eyes peeled...

2) So i went to delete the folder since it seemed useless at that point, and it said it was in use by another program.

3) I went ahead and opened task manager and saw some processes using fake windows host names running on my pc on startup.

4) i launched in safe mode and ran 13 different antivirus and rootkit removal tools, they all had 50+ detections and removed everything giving my pc a clean bill of health

5) restart pc. same files are loading on my system. I am sure they are malicious at this point because they are blocking me from accessing my windows update settings.

6) back to safe mode to download windows iso creator and flash that to my usb. its blocked. all AV websites are also blocked.

7) use my laptop to create windows install media, return to pc and boot from usb through bios, never once allowing windows to load

8) when i get into the windows installation media, it says i dont have any drives connected. panic is starting to set in.

9) after some research i determine i have a bios rootkit, and decide to reflash my bios

10) tried reflashing bios, invalid file.

11) reboot from a different USB that has flash programming tool installed to be able to freely reflash my bios and be safe and secure once again

12) FPT says i have no drives connected, not even the one i booted from.

I am desparate at this point, and panicing pretty hard because I am getting every couple of hours an email saying a different account of mine has been compromised, so the rootkit is clearly loading malware. I cannot attach any pictures in this second because i am writing this from the laptop, but I would really appreciate it if someone smarter than me could please help me save my pc. I spen $8000 building it and I really cant handle watching it be murdered in front of me

While you are waiting for the next qualified/approved malware removal expert helper to weigh in on your topic, and even though you may have run the following Malwarebytes utility, or its subsets, please carefully follow these instructions:

For the short time between when you post the diagnostic logs, and when your helper weighs in, please take no further self-directed remedial actions that will invalidate the diagnostic logs you will have sent.

I understand @AdvancedSetup, I have taken a minute to calm down. Sadly I am the highest level technician at the local computer security store, and the next nearset one is not accessible to me for the near future. But I would love some help please

Whenever i run the tool, it freezes and becomes unresponsive during hte Scanning other areas phase. I had to close out of it using windows task manager. Im running it again to see if it freezes and re responds but is it supposed to be doing that?

The fix may possibly take up to 60 minutes to complete

If the tool needs a restart please make sure you let the system restart normally and let the tool complete its run after restart.
The tool will make a log named Fixlog.txt in the same folder you ran the Farbar program from. Please attach that log on your next reply.

Important: items are permanently deleted. They are not moved to quarantine. If you have any questions or concerns please ask before running this fix.

My apologies for the laate response, ive been away from home. I ran the script and the computer appears to be as normal. You cannot believe my relief. Thank you all so very, very much.

edit: I ran an antivirus scan using malwarebytes and it found two, although its possible those could be for a c++ project im testing

there is also a process running still called Windows host process (Rundll32) that i am not sure is legitimate

I also noticed this morning my email was mass emailing random people in italian sending them a scam phishing link. is this because they still have access to my pc? or would they have gotten access to my account previously? I just want to make sure im safe

The act of torrenting itself is not illegal. However, downloading and sharing unsanctioned copyrighted material is illegal, and there is always a chance of prosecution if caught by the authorities.
Torrenting non-copyrighted material is perfectly fine and is allowed. However, be aware that we have seen increased malware bundled with software downloads over P2P.

Recent Ransomware infections have been seen to encrypt user data so that no one can decrypt the data without the private key.
When sharing files, please keep in mind that you're increasing your system's attack surface area, which can increase the risk of infection.

Please make sure you Exit out of any other program you might have open so that the sole task is to run the following scan.
That goes especially for web browsers, make sure all are fully exited out of and messenger programs are exited and closed as well

That DOES NOT mean the computer is infected. Once the scan has been completed it uploads the log to their Cloud service which then uses Artificial Intelligence to determine if in fact any of the traces are an infection or not.

Im taking all these steps now and will update as soon as its all done.

You think it might be more worth my time to just reformat all my drives? I dont mind losing the data none of it is important

Which option do you think would serve me better? using your script to fix (which these have been working wonders btw i cant thank you enough), or going with the full reinstall? My C drive is running out of space so a reinstall might help with that too, but idk if i want to lose all my data just because of a *****er who wanted to ruin my pc and steal all my info

I am thinking of using the users BIOS/Motherboard Serial Number to uniquely identify a user (the application runs on Windows OS). When I refer to the BIOS/Motherboard Serial Number I am referring to the serial number returned when you type in: wmic BIOS get SerialNumber

I have previously attempted to use the Hard Drive serial number to uniquely identify a user but WMI is notoriously unreliable. For example; if you are running your .exe as an elevated process you will get a different Hard Drive serial number back from WMI. Also as crazy as this sounds, I have had 2 different Windows 8 machines change their Hard Drive serial no. on me when the Hard Drives were not changed at all - I'm not crazy this really happened - I realise there's no better way for people to think you're crazy than saying 'I'm not crazy' but putting that aside - do you know if I will experience these same issues with the BIOS/Motherboard' Serial Number?

I would maybe suggest aggregating several numbers together, concatenating them, and then performing a hash to get a unique ID. You could use BIOS serial number, CPUID info, hard drive serial numbers, ethernet MAC addresses, any bit of info you can get your hands on (but only from sources which will remain static).

Yes I think you're right. From what I've read many anti-piracy software applications do this - even Windows does this to verify a purchased version of Windows (they use 10 different hardware ids to produce a hash). The only problem is; if the user changes their hard drive, or wireless device, etc. the hash will change. So I'll need to be more forgiving and create a 'verification measure'. Hash bios UUID and hard drive serial, hash ethernet mac address and something else, and so on. If 4 out of 5 hashes match ( a 'verfication measure' of 4/5) then we have correctly identified the user.

Our bug reporting system often (with the permission of the reporter) includes the BIOS Id with other system information. I've noticed it is usually 'to be filled by OEM'. Given the margins in the PC business and the lack of a business case to spent a fraction of a cent to fill that out, I'm hardly surprised.

Tying restrictions to specific hardware identifications has always been a bust, which is why dongles were invented (they provided a reliable hardware identity). Notice how popular dongles are today? Gone are the good old days of a chain of USB or better yet serial dongles sticking out the back of your computer. If ever there was a reason to torrent a cracked copy of software, the dongle was it. Fortunately, cracking hardware-based protection is so easy such cracked copies were effectively available on day zero.

I am wonder if external bios and firmware effect game emulation accuracy in anyway.
I emulated Pokemon HG for RNGing and want to transfer them to my real cartridge. I did it without the external bios files arm9 and arm7 and with no firmware.bin file. Now I am want to know if they results would be the same.

External bios, firmware, and JIT settings all affect accuracy in some way.
None of that has anything to do with whether your save files will work when transferred to a real cartridge. They will work.
