I verified that my prefix and suffix are working correctly (barcode scanned into a text box on the tablet and the code showed the ! prefix and @ suffix) and verified the component is working in preview mode (manually typing in with the ! prefix and @ suffix generated an entry in the component data array).
I had a zebra barcode scanner running android that acted the same way. There was a delay setting that had to be adjusted. The scanner is acting as a keyboard but the default setting was faster than the Barcode Scanner Input component could keep up with. Adding a very short delay between key entries, in the scanner, was enough to get it working for me.
Hello bpreston ! We're also using a Zebra (MC33) and trying to implement a solution with Ignition using Perspective and the Barcode Scanner Input component ( +-+Barcode+Scanner+Input). However, when we try to scan and error message appears saying "Error. The device do not has a built-in camera", referring that it needs a camera in order to function and since our Zebra has a laser it's not going to scan. How can we get it to work properly?
Also, is it necessary to use the Ignition app or can we use this component when opening the project from within the handhelds web browser?
I'm not sure why you would see that error. Even the manual page you sent lists that it is designed for keyboard wedge scanners. For it to work, the scanner has to be setup to act as a keyboard. I do remember having to change some settings for it to do this. Part of that was setting the prefix and suffix characters. Where that component just monitors for the scanner to send keyboard signals.
You can test the component in the designer using your keyboard. If you run the view, you can type your prefix, then a string of numbers to simulate a barcode, and then your suffix. After you type your suffix, the component should handle the "barcode string" based on the event script your write under Component Events/onActionPreformed. Just make sure you use a script and not the "Scan Barcode" option in the event script.
As for your last thing, the MC33 is running Android, as far as I know, for it to work you will need to use the Ignition app. To me the Ignition app is prefered in that application because I was able to configure it to auto load into the Ignition app and setup the Ignition app to open the project that was built for that scanner. Having it do that I didn't have to worry about an operator changing settings on it and creating new issues for me.
It seems the issue was because of the 'Scan Barcode' option in the event configuration. For Ignition 8.1 this action specifies a camera preference, thus it expects a camera to perform the scan. I then adjusted the prefix and suffix as you mentioned and, additionally, had to set a 1 ms delay between the characters input in the Zebra handheld in order for it to read properly the input. I manage the input through the Perspective Session Events, that's the main difference from your approach, but it does seem to work fine too.
Understood, that's a great point. Thank you!
After activating Malwarebytes Safe Browsing, I got a warning saying Malwarebytes Safe Browsing Scanner collects all of the text you type, except passwords. This includes personal data such as credit card numbers. It can also collect data about your interactions with this tablet.
So am I understanding this right? If I type my Credit Card number thru this tablet, it goes straight to Malewarebytes if the Safe Browsing Scanner is on? Someone tell me I have this wrong. If not, who would want this on their mobile?
Don't worry, the pop-up is misleadingly scary in this case!
Whenever you accept any kind of permission on Android, Google gives you the worst-case scenario. The pop-up you are seeing is actually saying "it is possible this feature could allow malwarebytes to see sensitive information" - it's not saying that the app does it.
In fact the Safe Browsing Service is not collecting any sensitive information at all. The scanner only looks for patterns which are URL's and then checks if they are dangerous to you. When it is finished, it forgets everything. The only thing that ever gets recorded is the malicious URL to show in the history if it blocks something - so that you can see it on the scanner page.
I have been using the scanner feature on my Android device to create PDF documents for quite a while. After a recent update, the scanner is creating distorted files with pixelation when I use the Black and White scan setting. I have viewed the documents on other devices in other apps and the problem is the file that the Dropbox scanner creates. I have tried other scanning apps on the device and the scans are fine. Has anyone else observed this problem? If so, is there a solution?

The Mopria Scan application enables you to scan directly from your scanner or MFP to your Android device. This saves you the hassle of installing apps for every scanner you use and facilitates easy access to your scanned pages for viewing on your Android devices or routing to email, cloud storage or other applications.
You can also start a scan right from the Mopria Scan app itself. Simply tap on the Scan application icon from your home screen or app drawer to start the application. You can pick where to send the scanned pages after the scan is complete.
Founded in 2013, by Canon, HP, Samsung, and Xerox, Mopria Alliance has grown to 23 members representing the worldwide printer and scanner business. In addition to the founding companies, the Mopria Alliance today includes Adobe, Brother, EFI, Epson, Fuji Xerox, Huawei, Lexmark, Konica Minolta, Kyocera, Microsoft, OKI Data, Pantum, Primax, Qualcomm, Toshiba, Ricoh, Sharp, Xiaomi and YSoft.
I have a android TV box with android 12 running bitdefender mobile version 3.3.234.2411, since it updated to this new version today I can no longer scan, when pressing the scan button nothing happens.
Update: When I boot my android device I cannot use the manual scan, also the in the "app lock" tab it shows no apps listed (the app list is empty) and in "account privacy" it's not showing my account.
I also confirm this bug. Manual scanning does not work for about 30 minutes. Furthermore, today it asks me to activate the anti-theft device and "take photos", I had already activated this some time ago.
After exactly 30 (thirty) minutes from the device's restart, the bugs/issues were resolved by themselves, i didn't change anything in the app's settings and/or in the Android's settings, after 30 minutes all of a sudden they were enabled and/or started to working normally.
I have the same issues all listed above. And I contacted the support and then after 10 mins my app started to work while I was with support. I asked them to escalate the issues to the superior as I also discovered this post.
Just jumping in here to let you know that a task has been opened for the BMS devs last week following your reports and was completed just earlier today, so we are expecting the fix to be deployed with the next product update, and that should be released asap.
I've also encountered this 30 minute lag on power up before the start scan button becomes functional again. I'm on a Google Pixel 6a android version 14 and am running Bitdefender version 3.3.236.2419. This is such an odd behavior are we sure this is just a normal program bug? Could it possibly be some kind of new malware that Bitdefender can't detect. I ran MalwareBytes on my phone and it also didn't detect anything. Just seems very odd that a bug would disable the program's functionality but only for exactly 30 minutes after which everything works normal again? While disabled it asks you to do things like set up Anti-theft again and App lock again if you try to open these features, could it be trying to steal our PINs? I sure hope this is just a normal program bug!
I can also confirm that the issue is resolved with the update to version 3.3.236.2418, I'm able to run scans directly after boot and the "app lock" shows my apps listed and "account privacy" shows my account listed.
Android devices with built-in barcode scanners that are engineered for work-place productivity are a phenomenon. Built-in commercial grade scanning hardware now makes implementation so much easier, short and long term. Say goodbye to attachments we've all tried and struggled with, due to many OS variants on our phones and tablets combined with attachments' often under-developed firmware and hardware. With the release of top-quality, affordable models like the...
