In windows 98 the application just opens the parallel port and dumps data to the printer. In Windows XP, there is a whole layer of windows drivers and print spooler that the print job has to pass through to get to the printer. Unfortunately there is not much you an do other than give the user a faster computer to cut this delay time down.
Sorry, no there is not. One OS is based on DOS and one on the NT Kernel. While they do the same thing, the way they go about sending the information to the printer is totally different. Using the NT kernel, applications are never allowed to write directly to the hardware as they an in DOS.

You may not be able to install or run the USB printer driver on a computer which is not equipped with a USB port or which has been upgraded from Windows 95 to Windows Me, 98, XP, or 2000.
Make sure that EPSON USB Printer Devices appears on the Device Manager menu (for Windows Me and 98 only)If you canceled the plug-and-play driver installation before the procedure was complete, either the USB printer device driver or the printer driver may be incorrectly installed.
