Teleconference
14 January 2014
Join us Friends of the Earth News

Hello and a happy new year to you.

I spent several days of my Christmas visiting the wonderful people at Barton Moss Protectors camp just up the road from me. Inspiring stuff. They are still there despite the wind and rain and just as their work on fracking continues in to 2014, so does ours. Alongside that, 2014 is a year where we aim to secure a win on bees, launch our major new energy campaign and a huge amount more besides.

As we enter a new campaigning year, I'm emailing to let you know that on 3 February at 7pm Andy Atkins (Friends of the Earth's Executive Director) and Roger Clarke (Friends of the Earth's Chair of the Board) will be taking part in a free teleconference just for members of licensed Friends of the Earth groups.

They'll be talking through Friends of the Earth's plans and priorities for the year or so ahead and setting out how that fits in to our overall strategy. It offers a chance to get to grips with what our top priorities are right now, on campaigns and for the organisation as a whole, and why and to consider how that relates to your work in your own community.

It's very simple and free to take part and details of how to do so are below. It will last up to one hour.

This is the first of what we plan to be a series of occasional evening teleconferences with senior staff, exclusively for group members, looking at different areas of our work and our plans ahead. I'll let you know more about the future plans later on.

We've also set up an online space where you can find and read our strategy and we'll add other elements of our strategy to that over the coming weeks. As well as accessing the strategy (in the Resource Library section), you can discuss it with others in the groups community (in the Strategy Discussions area section). You might want to have a read of the strategy before this teleconference.

p.s. Teleconferences with large numbers of people can be complex so I hope you'll bear with us as we trial this. In particular, I'm sure you can imagine that trying to have a discussion or take questions from a large number of people in one phone call is very hard. So if you'd like to put a question to Andy to Roger, it would be helpful to email it to me in advance and I'll make sure it gets to them to consider.

How to join the free teleconference with Andy and Roger (only for members of Friends of the Earth local groups)

Just before 7pm, call this freephone number: 0800 022 9695
When prompted, enter this pin number: 164447
When prompted, say your name
And that is all you need to do. Just sit and wait and it will start when Andy and Roger are ready to go.
The call shouldn't cost you anything and should last up to an hour.
This meeting is mainly a chance to listen rather than chat, which is hard with teleconference formats like this. So if you have a mute button, it may be good to use that, to block out background noise for others.
Please could you pass this email on to members of your group, so that the word spreads?

Thanks and here's to an impactful 2014,

Neil Kingsnorth, Head of Activism, Friends of the Earth, neil.ki...@foe.co.uk

To FOE members. It would be good to hear something of FOE's national
campaign.

STAFFORD GREEN DRINKS

7.30, Tuesday, 11 February

The Sun Inn, Stafford

(‘our’ table in the room on the far right)

NO FRACKING IN STAFFORDSHIRE?

NO DRILLING FOR COAL BED METHANE?

These questions were raised at a recent U3A ‘What on Earth?’ session.

As a result 13 people got together to talk about it a couple of weeks ago.

At Green Drinks on Tuesday everybody will have the chance to share knowledge
and ideas further.

What do people want to do about the issue?

There is a ‘GASFIELDFREE STAFFORD’ page on Facebook
