STAFFORD GREEN DRINKS

7.30, Tuesday, 11 March

The Sun Inn, Stafford

IS GERMANY GREENER THAN THE UK AND, IF SO, WHY?

What lessons can we draw from the notable differences between Germany and
the UK, differences such as:

· The earlier involvement of the German Green Party in a national
coalition,

and, still, at the highest levels in several of the Länder as well as in
many local authorities at lower levels..

· Germany’s commitment to closing all its nuclear power stations.

· Germany’s much more closely integrated public transport system, and
the much more extensive provision for cyclists.

The discussion will be led by Simon, who is working in the UK for three
years.

He has experience of green activism in Germany, particularly in Frankfurt
and Berlin.

NB We had said that we would go back to the subject of shale gas fracking
and coal bed methane extraction if Asma,

the originator of the ‘Gasfield-free Staffordshire’ Facebook page, could
come. She has now found that she can’t.

We could perhaps give a little time next Tuesday for people to report on
anything new which has come up.

Attached are some ideas about how to take this issue forward.

CITIZEN’S INCOME

Money for nothing?

A basic income for everyone?

Pie in the sky or achievable objective?

And what's it got to do with the environment?

Tony will be trying to answer some of these questions at the next Green
Drinks.
