Role: Crystal Reports/Power BI Technical Specialist
Location: Trenton, NJ (Hybrid)
Duration: 6 months with plans to extend
Position Summary
The Power BI & Crystal Reports Consultant will serve as a subject-matter expert in business intelligence, responsible for designing, developing, testing, and maintaining advanced data visualizations, dashboards, and operational reporting solutions that support strategic decision-making across the Office of the Public Defender. This role bridges technical analytics with mission-critical public defense work by turning complex legal case and performance data into clear, actionable insights for stakeholders through out the organization.
Required Qualifications
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Data Analytics, Computer Science, Information Systems, Criminal Justice, Public Administration, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
• Experience: Proven experience (typically 5+ years)designing and delivering Power BI dashboards and Crystal Reports in a professional environment, ideally within public sector, legal, or justice-related organizations.
• Technical Skills:
– Advanced knowledge of Power BI Desktop & Service, DAX, Power Query, and related visualization best practices.
– Expert proficiency building operational and enterprise reports in Crystal Reports.
– Strong SQL skills for querying and transforming data from relational databases.
• Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex data insights clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Analytical Mindset: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to accuracy and detail.
• Collaboration: Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including IT, data governance, and operational leadership.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience working within criminal justice, public defense, or government agency environments.
• Familiarity with case management systems and legal operations data.
• Exposure to additional BI tools (e.g., SSRS, SSIS) and data pipeline processes.
• Prior experience training or mentoring junior BI professionals.
