Dear Parishioners,

It is with great sorrow that we write to inform you of the falling asleep of Margaret Palis.  

Services: Due to the pandemic, there will be no calling hours and the funeral service at St. Nicholas Cathedral, Bethlehem, PA will be private. However, the funeral service will be live streamed at 10AM on Tuesday December 15 using the following link: www.stnicholas.org/Palis. The burial will at the St. Nektarios Monastery in Roscoe, NY.

Fr. Nicholas and family are very grateful to all those who have reached out with condolences.

May her memory be eternal.

Obituary:

Margaret Palis, 93, passed away peacefully in Ft. Myers, FL on Dec. 8, 2020.  Margaret was born in Sykea, Lakonia, Greece in 1927 and emigrated to the United States in 1947 with her parents, Nicholas and Chrysouli Cretekos, and her younger siblings, Jack and Mary. She married Theodosios Palis and they lovingly raised two sons, James and Nicholas, in Rochester, NY, before moving to Estero, FL in 1990. Margaret was sweet, gentle and soft-spoken; a wonderfully loving wife, mother, and grandmother; homemaker and cook par excellence; always ready to welcome family and friends to their home with warmth and kindness; a pious and generous Orthodox Christian. With her genuine smile and caring nature, she made devoted friends throughout her life who benefitted from her unconditional love and humble wisdom. 

Margaret is survived by her devoted husband of 67 years, Theodosios; her sons James (Elizabeth) Palis of Rochester, NY and Fr. Nicholas (Presvytera Irene) Palis of Bethlehem, PA; 8 grandchildren- Eleni, Christina (Michael), and Gregory Palis, Panayiota (Eleftherios) Hristofas, Fr. Theodosios (Presvytera Elizabeth) Palis, Presvytera Evangelia (Fr. Konstantinos) Koutroubas, Emmanuel and Nektaria Palis; and 7 great grandchildren- Kostantinos, Nicholas, Dionysius, Elisabeth, and Eirene Hristofas, and Nicholas and Ilinka Palis; sister-in-law Tasia Cretekos, and several nieces and nephews. Margaret is predeceased by her two sisters, Katina Kokkaliari and Mary Byron, and her brother Jack Cretekos. 

The family is deeply grateful to Lisa Esterly for her great kindness and loving care during Margaret’s final months.
