Dear Special People :

It’s been some time since last communicating. Some of the happenings going on. At SPX during the next day we are having 24 hour Adoration at our Chapel, until 7:30 AM. Anyone in the area or wants to give the Lord some time, you’re welcomed to join any others who are there.

Both of our basketball teams are in the State playoffs this weekend. The guys are in Las Cruces and the gals(how they got in is a mystery (6 – 22) go to Gallup (25 – 0) – not betting on an upset here. The baseball team edged Gallup yesterday 20 – 0. They play again this at 3 PM or so.

Nathan Barkocy is slowly returning to better health, mainly through the prayers and doctors that are touching him. I’ll try and send the latest from Kevin (his pop)who is going through an unusual road in learning to really Trust. His mother is a rock as well.

Had a nice visit with James Civerolo. (688-0010) He is improving and living on his own, despite utilizing a wheel chair to get around his apartment. He’s located right behind the Wal Mart on Academy, near Wyoming. He seems quite positive about life which was encouraging.

Dropped by to say “hi” Mr. and Mrs. Pat Goodwin. They’re doing as best as they can and are very limited in life.

Ran across Gayle and Mark Mohorchich. They had a most beautiful weekend, when they contacted some former students – got together and strolled down memory lane as they walked through their old neighborhood and ended up at their Grade School, Holy Ghost. They then lunched at Cervantes and relived so many stories.

Saw Mrs. Mares who misses her Percy so much. Bruce Vaio says basically the same thing for his dad, Aldo.

Two of our former students were buried in the past 7 days. Jackie Lujan (Class of 2002) – Aidan Martinez (2009)

Jeff Candelaria asked me to send something to all of you. I’m not familiar with what it is about, but it should be coming to you.

My Hopes are that Lent is a positive factor in your life. It helps to make needed adjustments to this one.

Request: I have lost the phone number to Dennis Kelly (1968) He ran cross country and track at Lourdes, then here at SPX. His health has taken a sever shot when he came down with his lungs about 9 years ago He’s been in my thoughts and prayers for a couple of weeks and any effort ends up at a dead end.

In the Class of 1982 Carmel Sanchez says that she is fighting cancer – Anthony Armijo is disabled and not working. Jackie Sherwood as is Becky Koller could really utilize any extra prayers – plus so many others – especially those mentioned above.

Last Saturday night, about 11:14 pm, our grandson came into the kitchen and broke up Sandy and my final card game (where she always whips me without mercy) and he said something strange was going on in front of our house. Peering out the window there was car, which was jacked up, and some guys were trying to change the tire. Patrick and me were going to go out and see what was happening. Sandy prevented that from happening with some words or warning and her “look”. “Ok – then I’ll call 911”. This also met with her disapproval. After a while I went to bed as they continued to watch. The next morning on leaving – the car had a dented right fender – the front end was elevated off the ground and the front bumper was 3/4ths of the way ripped off and lying in the street. Later, Sandy called some other number for the non-emergency needs. They came out – traced the license and called the owner. They went out to the garage and were surprised that her care was missing – from he closed garage. How does that happen?

Subject: "I have to get my kid to Pius"

“I have to get my kid to Pius”. This was the quote from one of the ICU nurses at UNMH following her experience of watching the Pius and entire Catholic community rally around Nathan.

I wanted to write this email as a follow up to the story Loraine shared during the faculty meeting. As part of his care, Nathan was placed in the care of a team of nurses who rotated 12hr shifts and overlapped about an hour a day. As God would have it, one of them(his favorite one) was a Pius grad and she immediately bonded with the entire group of family, friends and Pius students gathered daily in his hospital room. After just a couple of days of witnessing the incredible support, prayer, and encouragement poured on Nathan from friends, faculty, and staff one of the other nurses said, “ my son is a 7^th grader at LBJ and someway, somehow, I have to get my kid to Pius”.

The truth is you are all amazing individuals who do amazing work and although the daily road is rough at times, who we are changes lives.

We are blessed to part of the Sartan family because is not just what we do, its part of who we are.
