With some reflection on the conversation from January's meeting of Systems Thinking Ontario, we're going to try something a little different.

The Systemic Design class in the OCADU Master's program in Strategic Foresight and Innovation is different in 2020.  With one of the instructors, Jeremy, on sabbatical, there have been four lectures scheduled, coming specifically from a systems thinking perspective.

The first part of the first lecture covered some of the topics that we've previously discussed in Systems Thinking Ontario.  Digital audio and web video are available for listeners who want to catch up.  Time constraints left the latter part of the presentation slides uncovered.

We can use those (uncovered) slides as starting points for discussion.  In the more relaxed schedule that we have for Systems Thinking Ontario, we can have a conversation at leisure about the content.  We don't have to finish all of the slides, and are free to move backwards through the deck, or extend the conversation into the March meeting.  Depending on how the group feels, we could remain together in one large group, or break out into smaller groups and report back.

More details on the session are described at https://wiki.st-on.org/2020-02-10 .  Please register at https://ontology-of-becoming.eventbrite.com .

Gosh, once again I really wish I could be there! There's a funny overlap with a journey I have just been on through some classic papers - just posted at syscoi.com - all prompted by Harish Jose's tweet https://twitter.com/antlerboy/status/1224201338797453312 which quoted von Foerster:

“There are no such things as self-organizing systems!”
He started off - “I am somewhat hesitant to make the introductory remarks of my presentation, because I am afraid I may hurt the feelings of those who so generously sponsored this conference on self-organizing systems”
“On Self-Organizing Systems and Their Environments” (1955).

And I think these, and your topic of enquiry, also relate to the other two most recent posts, from contemporary philsosophers/cyberneticians:
