Greetings All,
I hope you have had a pleasant week, as we see more changes in the season, get out those cardigans I say!
We now turn our Bible Study to a change in the fortune of the Family of Israel in Part 1 - Egypt and Exodus. Israel is
growing and the family has left the Promised Land.
Your required reading is Exodus 3-5, 7, 11-12, 14, 16 and 17. For those looking for the entire story read Exodus 1 - 18.
God Reveals Himself (Exodus 1 -
4)
1. "Let my son go(halak) that he may serve (obed) me," says God in Exodus 4:23. "Go (halak) now, and work (obed)," replies Pharaoh (Exodus 5:18). Who is this battle between and what are the stakes?
God delivers Israel (Exodus 5 - 15)
2. What are all the "I ams" and I wills" God proclaims as an extension
of his name? List them. What effect should knowing these have on Moses
and the people? (Exodus 6: 1-8)
3. Today we show 'service' to God through the liturgy, which literally is 'the work of the people'. Read John 1:29, Matthew 26:17 1 Peter 17-19 and 1 Corinthians 5:7-8. Describe the correlation between the Passover lamb and Jesus.
The Journey to Sinai (Exodus 16-18)
4. There is a difference between knowing and doing. Read Exodus 16. When God tells Moses that he will send bread from heaven (manna) every day, he says he will do it to prove or test the people, to see whether they will walk in his law. What are the rules governing the gathering of manna, and what are they meant to teach?
Please be sure to pray before you read, see you all on Wednesday....
