Sorry about missing another Saturday reminder, I got rather busy arranging my belongings yesterday. We learned in the last session about Israels wanderings in the desert and how they were continually encouraged to trust God. I hope you all got to watch the sermon from Father Nouwen on Being the Beloved - it gives a solid foundation on how to start to build trust.
This weeks Bible Study will be on the Conquest and Judges - Part 1, its going to show how Israel approached the Promised Land. Your required reading is Joshua 1-4, 6-8 and 23-34. If you have time to go deeper, read all of the book of Joshua.
Preparation and Entry - Joshua 1-5
1. What is the significance of the twelve stones God has Israel set up at their camp on the far side of the Jordan (Joshua 4)?
Conquest - Joshua 6 - 12
2. Read Joshua 6 Describe the marching order and plan of attack to conquer Jericho. What kind of warfare is this? What spiritual message should this send to Israel?
Division of the Land - Joshua 13 - 22
3. Read Joshua 21" 43 - 45 Where does Israel stand in seeing the fulfillment of God's promises?
Covenant Renewal - Joshua 23 - 24
4. The apostles Paul and Peter encouraged the early Christians in battle. Read the following passages and note what they say about a. the nature of the battle and b. the Weapons God gives us to fight it. Relate them to what you read in the book of Joshua....
2 Corinthians 10:3-4; 1 Peter 2:11; 1 Timothy 6:11-12 and Ephesians 6:11-18
