Session 5 Bible Study Reminder

Greetings All,

    I hope you all had a good session last week, apologies that I couldn't make it, had a great time at Crater Lake with my sister. It was stunning down there! See attached for a photo.

This week we continue on learning about the Patriarchs - Part 2 - this covers the remainder of Genesis and your required reading is Genesis Chapters 25, 28, 29 and 32 and Chapters 37 - 50. To go deeper read Genesis 25 - 50.

Jacob (Genesis 25 - 36)

1. Why did God go against ancient laws in choosing Jacob? (Read Romans 9:10-13 and catechism No. 218)

2. Jacobs years in Haran were arduous, and Jacob continued to wrestle with Laban and a contentious home life. Nevertheless God blessed him with twelve sons and a daughter and increased his flocks and herds. After a time and in obedience to God's call, he set out for home. To name something in ancient times meant you had dominion over that thing. When God renames Abraham, the new name marred him as God's servant and also indicated the role he would play as patriarch. What is the significance of Jacobs new, God given name?

Joseph (Genesis 37 - 50)

3. After Jacobs death his brothers ask forgiveness and offer themselves to Joseph as slaves. Read Josephs reply in Genesis 50:19-20. What can Joseph see that his brothers do not? What gives him this perspective?
