I tried to send you an email through the Group Owners section but it would not let me.

Great pictures! I will have to have a look and see what I can find too. I remember I got my first camera a Fulviewflex whilst at school and I took a lot of photographs which were in a box somewhere.......... We should tag the pictures with the names of those we recognise - although I am not sure how one would do that. I am in touch with Lorna Hay (by snail mail - I will get an email address off her) - and through her of course her younger brother and sister - have searched for Donald Churchill a number of times - had an address for him in Newcastle under Lyme but have not found any trace of him yet. Am in touch with Rohit Gurtu. I met Mrs Bee at Cranbrook many years ago as it was near my college - but lost touch. Miss Biswas is somewhere in Australia. Miss Coutinho I believe has retired from Darjeeling - I had an email address for her but it is no longer in use. James and Frank Rorrison are in the UK - I met their Mum Mrs Rorrison who was briefly our Matron - many years ago when I was up at Hawick but have lost touch. I am also in touch with Lucinda Gibbs - who is living in India and met Alex in Dublin but couldn't meet up with Willie. I am in touch with their Dad as well as we are both members of the Old Paulites Association here. I saw some very sad pictures of the school on the internet and thats what got me searching to see what was on the net about St Andrews - a pity that it has been allowed to go into the state that it is now. Good to see that Khem, both Sanjays, Gigi and Bunty are on this site. I did not realise that Rikhye had a St Andrews connection........

I was looking through some second hand CDs the other day and came across Amahl & the Night Visitors - does anyone remember going up to St Pauls to see that?

I was talking to someone about the food the other day too - Snow pudding, Money pudding, Steam pudding, Frogs eggs - "Yes please a very very very little please.......!!" Rohit and I were talking about what fun we had when I gave the school chicken pox - and remembering the Barley Water we had to drink in the quarantine ward!

Feel free to post this on the group site. Rajiv

Last night I recalled some sort of Shopping we used to have.
Shopkeepers from the town used to come to the School and we'd buy
things from them. Anyone remembers this?? Skating at Gymkhana Club? I
fractured my arm and was treated in DDMA for 3 days.

Hey, hey, hey......Rajiv you have Lorna Hay's address. That is such great news. Been trying to locate her since forever. Thanks for bringing back all those great memories with your reminders.
Had gone to St. Andrews last Summer with the Sukarchakia clan and family, and was shattered to see the state it was in. Unfortunately we did not get to go inside though maybe that was just as well.
So what do you do these days ? Lovely to hear from you.
Will write in again.

I dont remember the shopping except when we used to go to town - chocolate fudge lolipops from Madans Stores, trips into Lekhraj and Easter Eggs from Glenarys - in my minds eye even the Easter Eggs at Fortnums and Masons in London don't quite compare to the confectionery that Glenarys produced and displayed - perhaps its a child's memory playing tricks - but it is a very certain memory nonetheless.  Even the patties there beat what you can get here hands down....

Yes the skating was pretty special too on a Sunday at the Gymkhana Club Rink after the service at St Andrews Church with Padre Le Blonde - I remember pulling out the splinters from the falls......... - interestingly he and Mrs Avari don't feature in any of the photographs - I remember putting my hands into his pockets to find boiled sweets and one of the things that he told us which made a great impression at the time and that I have never forgotten - always remember that when you point a finger at someone - there are three pointing back at you............  He of course is buried up at St Pauls on the knoll below Bishop Foss Westcott's grave.

I think I have a picture of the Ayahs somewhere too - Sophie, Jethi - can't remember the others - was it the night Ayah who polished the shoes and the brown sandals we used to wear.  I also wonder if the those drippingly wet and dank caves behind the gym still have the chamber pots and whether there are still tadpoles in the concrete bird bath on the steps outside the gym............

Angela Coni's email triggered another memory - meeting Mrs Bees sister outside the Gymkhana Club where she lived and giving us sweets!

The other thing that always triggers a very strong memory of St Andrews is music from The Sound of Music - I remember the school going down to the Capitol cinema to watch it.  I understand it is no longer a cinema and that the Rink Cinema is now a big shopping complex.

In fact I think that the only thing that lives on from St Andrews apart from us and our memories and the skeleton that is now the school building are the names of the houses - Hillary, Hunt and Tenzing - except that they added a fourth house - Everest later on.

Good wishes to you all

R

Hey who remembers the fire drills ?

And night jaithi would sneak in aloo rolls for Lorna and myself. Other times it was plums or imli with chilly powder. Nothing to beat those rolls - chapattis that were cold, aloo cooked with their skin, but they were heavenly.

was starting to believe that the Shopping was my fantasy.
I was one of the first eggetarians. Ya, remember the tuck cupboard too.
My Complan was a regular feature there. Not that it made a difference
to my physique. I've attached a pic of the eggetarian table. In the pic
: Mandy Arora, Atul Mohunta, (can't recall the guy next to me),Sandy
Arora.

A guy called John Ronson is looking for St.Andrews School. Early 60s.

Cheers,
Atul
