News March 2013 A Rocha UK At Your Church? Host Ruth Valerio Many of you will know Ruth Valerio as the organiser of A Rocha's Living Lightly programme - now she has a new role as Speaker and Theology Advisor. In her new capacity she will be doing a lot more speaking and writing on behalf of A Rocha UK. We would like the opportunity for her to talk to audiences all over the country about food and theology: why the food we eat is a Christian issue and how we can eat in ways that honour our Creator. If you think your church could host an event with Ruth as a guest speaker, and if you can do the local organising, please get in touch with Ruth at ruth.v...@arocha.org. Permission To Think! Over recent years Living Lightly has published regular, thought (and action) provoking Guest Articles. There was Martin Hodson on Climate Scepticism seen by nearly 8,500 people! Then there was Tom Rowley on Consumption, Bishop James Jones on Christmas and our own Ruth Valerio on Hopeful Virtue. Most recently Andy Flannagan reflected on 'Why I'm Not Good at Sharing'. Creative Learning In Dronfield The A Rocha UK Family Activity Day at Dronfield Baptist Church in February was action packed with crafts, games and activities. All this helped the 20 children and their parents who came to understand more about God’s wonderful creation. More...

Faith And The Environment In Hillingdon This event in February was a follow-up to the Faith and Climate Change conference last year. Once again it was organised by A Rocha UK in partnership with Hillingdon Interfaith Network. It was a productive meeting looking at issues around faith and the environment specifically in Hillingdon. The group were tasked with sharing and identifying actions which faith communities could use to promote good practice.  More...

Finding Our Place On Earth A Rocha provided input at the Re-inhabitating the Earth conference organised by Drumalis Community in Larne last month. Bertie Stirling, A Rocha UK's Northern Ireland Regional Coordinator, spoke about A Rocha, led the nestbox workshop and organised another workshop recycling used clothes into fashionable handbags. People Volunteering Overseas. Calling anyone with a Cambridge connection who would like to volunteer with A Rocha in Canada, France, Kenya or Portugal! The Henry Martyn Centre offers a limited number of small ‘Care for Creation’ bursaries each calendar year for a short-term placement in one of A Rocha’s field study centres outside of the UK. Full details of the eligibility requirements and application process are here. Congratulations to Irina Karaseva, our finance manager, and Vlad Korotkov who were married recently. We wish them both lots of happiness.
