Dear All,

One new feature has been implemented in the search interface
called Diff. This search feature allows you go get a rapid overview
of the differences and similarities between two languages.

Go to Advanced Options and click Diff.
Then select two languages in the Select Language constraint box,
and select any set of properties in the Select Property constraint
box.
Then click Search.

For example, suppose I select French and English and
do not select any properties. Then the search yields all
the property-values shared by French and English and
all those not shared by French and English.

As always, we are curious to see how users make use
of these features. If you have any feedback, let us know.
If using the features is difficult, let us know.

After many people begged us to create a forum system so
that people could comment on the information in SSWL, it has remained
almost unused since implemented. My feeling is that if people
started using the forum system, a user community would develop,
which would lead to higher quality data, more consistent interlinearly
glossed examples, interchanges about empirical phenomena, etc.

Don't be shy. Please post.

Chris

Dear al,

The new advanced search options are simply amazing...

One thing I realized when I played with this is that they allow for a
control check on the property settings. (in the future when more
examples are inputted this should become even better).

Here is one simple way to do this. Under advanced search options, run
similarities on all properties, and view the results as a similarity
tree.
When languages are not grouped together in expected ways, select Diff
for the two languages, and see which settings come out differently.
Then if you have questions, if you suspect there was a mistake in the
property setting , or if you have other questions (maybe this is a
real as yet unnoticed difference!) add a comment on the forum. (go to
the language, select the property, click on forum and input your
comments). All this is superfast and easy.

Hi All,

The Diff Feature is really great!

Following up on Hilda's point on "if you suspect there was a mistake",
is there a way for a contributor to change a property value that has
been set by another contributor or should we just comment on the forum
for that property? (For example, if you can tell from looking at the
example and property definition that it is an oversight).

Thank you,

Ananda

Dear Ananda,

You should definitely use the forum system to comment on this.
I do not know if users are regularly looking at the forums yet.
If the mistake is clear and relatively minor, I can just change
it myself (as Admin).
