Introduction to Emotional Intelligence: With a Review of Cultural Intelligence and Competency in Work with Youth
This course meets the qualifications for 12 (6 per day) BBS CEUs for LCSWs and MFTs as Required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences & and provided by Fred Finch Youth Center, Provider #3019Through lecture, large and small group dialogue, experiential activities and skill development techniques, participants will explore and learn tools to enhance the following factors of Emotional Intelligence with you in and out of home care:
Emotional Intelligence (EQ/EI) has been described as “the subset of social intelligence that involves the ability to monitor one's own and others' feelings and emotions, to discriminate among them and to use this information to guide one's thinking and actions (Salvey, P & Mayer, J.D., 1990).” Through the application of intelligence to emotion, we can improve our lives immeasurably, including our ability for personal and professional success. Emotional intelligence is a far greater predictor of personal and professional success than the Intelligence Quotient (IQ). Furthermore, as emotions are habits, individuals are able to unlearn some emotions and develop healthier ones, therefore gaining heightened control over their lives. This training will provided participants with the skills to support youth in care to develop their emotional intelligence, and in turn they too will enhance their possibilities for overall success.Training Objectives:Self-awareness - The ablility to recognize your won emotions and how the affect your thoughts and behavior, know your strengths and weaknesses and develop self-confidence.Self-management - The ability to control impulsive feelings and behaviors, manage your emotions in healthy ways, take initiative, follow through on commitments, and adapt to changing circumstances.Social-awareness - The ability to understand the emotions, needs, and concerns of other people, pick up on emotional cues, feel comfortable socially, and recognize the power dynamics in a group or organization.Relationship management - The ability to develop and maintain good relationships, communicate clearly, inspire and influence others, work well in a team, and manage conflict.Natalie J Thoreson, founder of inVision Consulting mission is to support positive social change, meaningful communication and interdependent diverse communities through an experiential education process.
