サティヤ サイババの御言葉です。
『ハヌマーンをセヴァのお手本にしなさい。ハヌマーンは、あらゆる類の障害を物ともせずに、正義の王子、ラーマに仕えました。ハヌマーンは、強く、学識があり、徳を備えていましたが、ひとかけらの慢心も持っていませんでした。大胆にもランカー国に侵入し、悪鬼（ラークシャサ、羅刹）たちに何者かと聞かれた時、ハヌマーンは大いに謙遜して、自分は「ラーマの召し使い」だと言いました。これぞ、エゴ〔自分がやっているという気持ち〕を根こそぎにした好例です。そして、それこそが、セヴァが私たちにもたらさねばならないものです。そのような奉仕をしなければいけません。エゴが猛威を振るっている間は、誰も他の人に奉仕することはできません。互いに助け合おう、無私の奉仕をしようという姿勢が、人間性を発達させ、隠れていた神性を開花させます』

"Take Hanuman as your example in seva. He served Rama, the Prince of Righteousness, regardless of obstacles of all types. Though he was strong, learned, and virtuous, he had no trace of pride. When asked who he was by the rakshasas (demons) in Lanka into which he had entered so daringly, he described himself, in all humility, as the ‘servant of Rama.’ That is a fine example of uprooting of the ego which seva must bring about in us. No one can serve another while his ego is rampant. The attitudes of mutual help and selfless service develop the ‘humanness’ of man and help the unfoldment of the divinity latent in him."

『クリシュナは、全知、全能、すべてを包含している者、満願成就をもたらす者として、万人に知られていました。それでもなお、クリシュナは、自らが執り行うことになっていた戴冠式の際の供犠（ラージャスーヤ ヤーガ）の前夜にパーンダヴァ兄弟の長兄ダルマラージャのもとに行き、「どんなセヴァでも引き受けよう」と申し出ました。クリシュナをそうするよう駆り立てたのは、セヴァをすることへの熱意でした。そして、クリシュナは、「来賓たちが祝宴に興じた食堂を掃除する仕事を自分が引き受けるのはどうか」と言いました！ クリシュナは、外側の清浄と内側の清浄を強調しました。きれいな服ときれいな心が、理想の組み合わせです』

"Krishna was known to all as almighty, all-knowing, all-encompassing, and all-fulfilling. Yet, the enthusiasm to do seva prompted him to approach Dharmaraja, the eldest of the Pandava brothers, on the eve of the magnificent Rajasuya Yaga he had planned to celebrate and offered to take up seva of any kind. He suggested that he might be given the task of cleaning the dining hall after the guests have partaken of the feast! Krishna insisted on outer cleanliness and inner cleansing. Clean clothes and a clean mind are the ideal combination."

"The Lord sets the example for the devotees to follow. He teaches that service done to any living being is offered to Him only and is accepted by Him most joyfully. Service rendered to cattle, to beasts, and to men is laudable sadhana. Keeping the environment of our residence clean, providing help to those who live around the place, going to hospitals, and serving the patients who are in the wards—in such acts of service, the members of the Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organization must take an active part. 『セヴァ修行〔霊性修行としての奉仕／セヴァサーダナ〕を通じて、ハヌマーンは、川が海と自己との一致に到達するように、ラーマと自分との一致に到達しました。同様に、アルジュナは一切の行為をクリシュナの恩寵を得るための霊性修行と見なしました。というのも、クリシュナはアルジュナに、「マーム アヌスマラ ユーディヤチャ」〔あらゆる時に私を念ぜよ。そして戦え。〕、すなわち、ずっとクリシュナを想いながら戦い続けるようにと、指示したからです。あなた方もそれと同じように、病院患者に奉仕をしているときも、商店街の下水溝を掃除しているときも、常に神をペースメーカーとして心の中に留めておきなさい。それこそが苦行であり、それこそが最高の霊性修行の形です。１００の講義を聴くよりも、他者に講義をするよりも、心からのセヴァという1つの行為を神に捧げるほうが、神の恩寵を引きつけます』

"Through seva sadhana, Hanuman attained identity with Rama, as the river attains identity with the sea. Arjuna too considered every act as sadhana to attain the grace of Krishna, for Krishna directed him to fight on, ever keeping Him in memory—“Ma Manusmara Yuddhyacha.” You too should keep God ever in your mind as the pace-setter, whether you are serving patients in the hospitals or cleaning a drain in the bazaar. That is the tapas, that is the highest form of sadhana. More than listening to a hundred lectures or delivering them to others, offering one act of genuine seva attracts the Grace of God."

『体は他者への奉仕に役立たせなければいけません。体の主な目的は、活動することです。クリシュナは言いました。「私は仕事をする必要がない。しかし、世界に活動をさせるために私は働く」と。他者に奉仕をすることによって、人はただ自分のために働くことから得られるよりも多くの至福を得ることができます。必要としている人に真心込めて何らかの奉仕をし、その結果生じる至福を体験しなさい。大きな奉仕である必要はありません。小さくて他の人に気づかれないようなものでも構いません。奉仕は、あなたの中にいる神、そして、他の人たちの中にいる神を喜ばせるために行われなければいけません』

"The body has to be utilized for service to others. Activity is its main purpose. Krishna says, “I have no need to be engaged in work but I do work in order to activate the world.” More ananda can be won by serving others than what can be got by merely serving oneself. Offer service to someone in need, with a full heart and experience the ananda that results. It need not be something big; it can even be small and unnoticed by others. It has to be done to please the God within you and him."

『今日、私たちは、無私の奉仕に喜びを見いだす人々を必要としていますが、そのような人はめったに見られません。サティヤ サイ オーガニゼーションに属するあなたたち一人ひとりが、助けを必要としている人を助けることを切望する奉仕者にならなければいけません。奉仕者がリーダーになったとき、世界は繁栄するでしょう。召し使い（キンカラ）だけが、主なる神（シャンカラ）へと成長することができます。当然ながら、エゴは完全に取り除かなければいけません。ほんのわずかでもエゴが残っていれば、災難を招き寄せます。あなたがどれだけ長く瞑想しても、どれだけ間断なくジャパをしても、ほんのわずかなエゴがそれらの結果を実りのないものにしてしまいます。エゴで膨れ上がった慢心を持ってなされたバジャンは、カラスの鳴き声のように耳障りなものになります。ですから、たとえわずかでも、エゴがあなたの霊性修行を台無しにしてしまうのを避けるようにしなければなりません』

"We require today those who take delight in selfless service, but such men are rarely seen. You who belong to the Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organization, every one of you, must become a sevak, eager to help those who need it. When the sevak (helper) becomes the nayak (leader) the world will prosper. Only a kinkara (servant) can grow into Shankara (Master). Of course, one has to eliminate the ego totally. Even a trace of it will bring disaster. However long you may do dhyana, however constant your japa, a little ego will render them barren of results. Bhajan done with egoistic pride will be as harsh as the crow’s caw. So try to avoid the ego marring your sadhana, even to a small extent."

『愛はセヴァ〔無私の奉仕〕として顕れなければなりません。セヴァは、飢えた人々に対しては食物の形を取り、絶望した人々に対しては慰めの形を、病気の人や苦しんでいる人々に対しては安らぎの形を取らなければなりません。イエスはそのような奉仕のために、身を粉にして働きました。慈悲に満ちたハートは神の寺院です。イエスは、慈悲深くあるようにと人々に訴えました。慈悲こそはイエスのメッセージでした。イエスは貧しい人々を見て深く心を痛めました。
今日、イエスは崇められていますが、イエスの教えは無視されています。サイは崇められていますが、サイの教えは無視されています。どこを見ても虚飾や、華麗な式典や、空虚な自己顕示ばかりです。講演、講演、講演です！ 何の活動もなく、愛も奉仕も見られません。講演をする間は英雄（hero）ですが、言ったことを実行に移すことにおいてはゼロ（zero）です。慈悲を培いなさい。愛の内に生きなさい。善良でありなさい。善を行いなさい。善を見なさい。これが神に至る道です』

"Love must be manifested as service, seva. Seva must take the form of food for the hungry, solace for the forlorn, consolation for the sick and the suffering. Jesus wore himself out in such seva. The heart full of compassion is the temple of God. Jesus pleaded for Compassion. Compassion was His Message. He was sorely distressed at the sight of the poor. This day, Jesus is worshipped but His teachings are neglected. Sai is being worshipped but His teachings are neglected. Everywhere, pomp, pageantry and hollow exhibitionism! 『セヴァは、万人のハートに内在する神に捧げる礼拝です。人に、どの州の出身かを尋ねたり、どのカーストや信条に属しているかを聞いたりしてはいけません。あなたが他人と思うその人の中に、あなたが最も愛する神の御姿を見なさい。実を言うと、その人は「他人」などではありません。その人は、神の生き写しであり、あなたも同じくそうなのです。あなたは、ある「個人」を助けているのではありません。あなたは、その人の内にいる「私」を愛しているのです。私は、その人の姿をとって、あなたの目の前に立っているのです。ですから、エゴが頭を出す隙間がどこにあるでしょうか？』

"Seva is the worship you offer to the God in the heart of everyone. Do not ask another which State you belong to, or which caste or creed you profess. See your favourite Form of God in that other person; as a matter of fact, he is not 'other' at all. It is His image, as much as you are. 『愛の化身である皆さん！
　今日はだれもが年明けを慶（よろこ）んでいます。意味深いことに、この新年は木曜日から始まりました。一年の特定の日を選び、浮かれ騒いでその日を祝うのは愚かなことです。真の帰依者にとっては毎日が祭日です。それゆえ、一分一分、一日一日を新しいものと考え、喜びをもってそれらを祝うことが肝要です。本当は毎日が元日なのです。～中略～

今日バジャンを歌った青年たちはサイの学校の卒業生です。彼らはスワミを喜ばせるためにさまざまな奉仕を始めました。神は礼拝やほかのサーダナ（霊性修行）には関心がありません。神は奉仕だけに関心があります。ですから、奉仕をしなさい。もっともっと奉仕をしなさい。神を愛する一番の方法は、すべてを愛し、すべてに仕えることです。神は愛と奉仕だけに関心があります。この二つのサーダナ（霊性修行）の重要性を理解し実行するにまさるサーダナ（霊性修行）はありません。奉仕をするのにたくさんのお金を使う必要はありません。愛のこもった奉仕をして人生を聖化しなさい』

"Embodiments of Love!
Today, everybody is enthusiastic about New Year’s day. Significantly, this New Year Day has started on a Thursday. It is one’s foolishness to single out a particular day in a year and celebrate that day with great joy. For a true devotee, every day is a festival day. Today, the boys who sang bhajans are former students of the Institute. They have undertaken several service activities to please Swami. God is not interested in worship and other sadhanas. He is interested only in service. Hence, undertake service and more and more service. “The best way to love God is to Love all and Serve all.” God is interested only in love and service. If you can recognize the importance of these two and conduct yourself accordingly, there can be no greater sadhana. You need not spend a lot of money in service. Sanctify your life by undertaking loving service."

『ここでの任務が終わって、祭りが過ぎ、以前の本業と、一時は捨てた習慣を再び始めるために故郷に帰る時、そのバッジ〔セヴァダルが着けるバッジ〕をポケットにしまい込んではなりません。これは三日間の見世物（タマーシャ）ではありません。これは生涯続く巡礼の歩みです。そのバッジは、生涯ハートに刻まれてなければいけません。どこであれ、気分の悪い人、落ち込んでいる人、慰めのない人、病人を見かけたら、そこはあなたの奉仕の場です。血球の一粒ひとつぶ、神経の一本いっぽんが、愛で、そして、その愛を見捨てられた人々と分かち合いたいという熱望で、躍動していなければいけません。愛がハートを満たしたとき、ハートは神に変容したのです。なぜなら、神は愛であり、愛は神だからです。カビール、トゥッカーラーム、聖フランシスコ、ラーマクリシュナといった、インドや他の国々の偉大な聖者たちを不滅の存在にしたのは、まさに、愛、そして、愛から流れ出る思いやりでした』

"Do not put the badge in your pocket when your work here is over and the festival is finished, and when you leave for home to resume your old avocations and your discarded habits. This is not a three-day tamasha (show). This is a lifetime’s pilgrim march. The badge must get inscribed on the heart, indelibly, for life. Wherever you see a sick person, a dispirited, disconsolate, diseased person, there is your field of service. Every blood cell, every nerve, must tingle with Love, with eagerness to share that Love with the forlorn. 『プラシャーンティ ニラヤムに10年、15年、20年と、長期間に亘って滞在している人々もいますが、体だけが年をとり、セヴァをしたいという熱意は育っていません。プラシャーンティ ニラヤムでの生活は、救済へ導くセヴァの道に対する信念を深めるものでなければなりません。どのような姿勢を持つかが重要です。行われる奉仕は小さいものかもしれません。あなたには、何百万人もの人々を助ける計画に参加する機会がないかもしれませんが、足の不自由な子羊を持ち上げて塀の向こう側に渡したり、盲目の子どもの手を引いて混雑した道路を渡してあげることができます。これらも礼拝の行為なのです』

"There are people, at the Nilayam, who have been here for 20, 15, 10 years and such long periods, but, only their bodies have grown older; their seva yearning has not grown. Life at the Prasanthi Nilayam must deepen faith in the seva path to salvation. It is the attitude that is essential. The particular item of service might be small. You may not get a chance to partake in some gigantic scheme of service through which millions may be benefitted; you can lift a lame lamb over a stile, or, lead a blind child across a busy road. 『「バガヴァッド ギーター」の本が25パイサ（１ルピーの４分の１）で売っていて、幼稚な小説が10ルピーするかもれません。どちらの方が価値があるでしょうか？ どちらが、卑金属を金に変質させることができるでしょうか？ セヴァは、霊性修行者に通常勧められる、ジャパや瞑想、礼拝や犠牲の儀式よりも、効果的です。その理由は、セヴァは、エゴを消滅させること、至福を手に入れること、という2つの目的を果たすからです』

"A copy of the Gita may be available for twenty-five paise; a puerile novel may cost ten rupees. Which is more worthwhile? Which can transmute base metal into gold? Seva is more fruitful than japa, dhyana, yajna and yaga, usually recommended for spiritual aspirants. For, it serves two purposes: the extinction of the ego, and the attainment of ananda (bliss)."
