State govt. reduces age limit for pension

-- Bhopal: The state government has decided to reduce the age limit for pension as a special Diwali gift for the elderly persons in the state.

They will start getting the benefit of it from November 1, the foundation day of the state.

This will benefit 19.50 lakh elderly persons in the state. Now, old age pension will be given on completion of 60 years of age in place of 65 years, said Panchayat & Rural Development and Social Justice Minister Gopal Bhargava. The pension amount of those over 80 years of age, he said had been increased to ` 500 per month from ` 200.

Arrangements of amended pension would come into force in the state from Madhya Pradesh Foundation Day on November 1, he added.

According to him about two lakh elderly persons would be benefited by the decision to increase pension of those over 80 years of age under Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension from ` 200 to ` 500 per month. Similarly, pension worth ` 275 per month will be given to elderly persons between the age of 65 years and 79 years.

This will benefit 12 lakh 27 thousand 418 BPL category elderly persons. Five lakh 23 thousand elderly persons belonging to BPL category will be benefited by the decision of reducing age limit for Social Security Pension from 65 to 60 years. They will be given pension ` 200 per month each.
