Friends

Recently SBH charged Rs. 830/- for issuing the payorder in respect of partial withdrawal from PPF a/c.
I think the bank's are not supposed to charge commission for issuing the payorder for govt. business
a/c. PPF.
Anybody knows what the PPF rules say about this?

The moment you withdraw the money from that account it is no more PPF. Any service of bank you utilize to transfer funds will have to be under the rules of banking. You should have opened an  account in that bank and transferred funds into that account. Better luck next time.

Ofcourse, no service is free, Nowadays, Banks particularly PSU Banks are helpless due to severe and strict demands from the Govt/political bosses they are searching ways and methods of squeezing the customers. Raising the minimum in the SB account to 2,500 or so is also in this direction. In my SBH account they deducted Rs 50 several times and when asked said that this is towards the ATM card. I didnt have or take an ATM card; now they are reversing this.
In these columns one of our friends praised the services at the Canara Bank, Kharkhana. Two days back I went to get my pass book updated. The manager could not get it done as three or four staff members were absent. I asked for the TDS certificate, he asked me to come next week. Ofcourse the Manager was smiling and grinning nicely all the time!

Sir,
I suggest that you open a SB account in the same bank branch where you have PPF account now itself. When you withdraw (part of) PPF accumulations request them to transfer the amount to your SB account. Otherwise you will loose very heavily on account of Banker's Cheque / DD commission charges.

In SBI following charges are applicable for issue of DD / Bankers Cheque

Up to 10,000/- Rs. 30/-
Above Rs10,000/- Rs.2.50 per Rs 1,000 Min.
Rs. 50/- Max. Rs 12500/-

For remittances by cash deposit, cash handling charges will be extra
In addition if you asking for cash to be given you have to pay Rs 100 per bundle of currency notes. as Cash handling Charges. (IS my understanding right?)

I understood one person had to pay Rs 12.500 (maximum charges)  for getting PPF DD

thank you for yr advice.
i have a joint savings a/c. with my wife. however son is not inclined. i will fwd this emal to him for
his info. and action.
banks are charging for any where banking also. i had a occasion to deposit Rs.1000/- in SBH at a branch
other than the a/c. maintaining one . I was charged Rs. 25/- since that was the minimum.
People who are poor and have small transactions cannot afford this anywhere banking facility and would
have to travel all the way to the a/c. maintaining branch. This minimum charge criteria have not taken
into consideration the consequences it would have on small income group notwithstanding that the govt.
wants banking to be taken to the doorstep of poor people.
