DHS releases new RFP to address overdose burden in disproportionately impacted communities

DHS, though its Behavioral Health Administration, is seeking to address the opioid overdose crisis in communities and populations that have been historically underserved and disproportionately impacted by opioid-related overdose deaths

The term of any resulting contract is anticipated to be twenty-one (21) months, from September 1, 2026 until June 30, 2028. The contract may extend up to a total of five (5) years, subject to the availability of funds and contract performance.

Naloxone Saturation Reconvening Summary

On April 8th, the Department of Human Services and the Office of Addiction and Recovery hosted a Naloxone Saturation Reconvening to hear from partners what changes have occurred in the naloxone saturation landscape and to gather feedback on the implementation of the Naloxone Saturation Strategy.

The event featured a presentation by state agency leaders and staff on progress made to implement the Naloxone Saturation Strategy as well as discussion panels on 24-Hour Naloxone Access and Naloxone Training and Education. Attendees also provided feedback through group discussions. Major themes included the integration of naloxone with other harm reduction strategies, new avenues for distribution, and the importance of engaging with people who use drugs.

The state will be using the information gathered from the event to inform its future work and create an updated Naloxone Saturation Strategy, which should be available later this year.

Monthly drug overdose death snapshot: May 2026

*Note: The coding and processing time of death certificates was lengthened by the Federal government shutdown months ago. There may be a delay in the filing of confirmed overdose deaths that could be reflected on the second chart of the snapshot.

The monthly fatal overdose snapshot provides a look at the prior month's overdose death data. This snapshot was created by MDH and is close to real-time data.

You can view the snapshot on MDH's Monthly Drug Overdose Death Snapshot webpage or open the PDF version here: Monthly Drug Overdose Deaths Snapshot: May (PDF).

Please reach out to health.d...@state.mn.us with questions related to the snapshot or with any additional data needs.
