BOSTON, MA – Despite having secured their spot for the promotion playoffs with last week’s convincing win against Shieldfield, there is still a possibility that the Black Sox can confirm an automatic ticket for the Premiership with two more matchdays to go. Indeed, Boston will need at least three more points from the last pair of games, meaning they will have to win either one of their matches if they are to finish in one of the top two spots in the First Division. And against both other clubs  in the top three, that task will be a difficult one.

The odds are not with the Black Sox however. They haven’t won against either AC Larne or Middletown in their previous meetings this season, as they were held to a scoreless away draw against the former before losing a 4-3 heartbreaker to the Steelers at home on a stoppage time winning goal by Nettessi on matchday 11. “Yeah, that goal still stings, especially when we look at where we are now,” mentioned Boston manager Guillaume Rousseau. “That being said, that loss is on us, you can’t allow that many goals in a match and expect a win, we had to play better, and that put us in the situation we are in right now. We will need to play our best for these two games, and if we do that then automatic promotion can be a reality, heck we could even win the league outright.”

As the Black Sox are sitting in first place for the first time this season, it does give them a little leeway and a bit of a head start in the race for automatic promotion. “We need three points to pretty much ensure promotion, but other results could go our way and make it so we need less. The way I see it, AC Larne have got a good chance of moving up when looking at their remaining matches, since they play us and then 11th-place Asbo, so they pretty much have their destiny in their hands. Middletown will play Shurdington which, despite losing their last two, are still on a good form. The best bet though would be Shieldfield, which I totally expect to haul in all six points from their remaining fixtures. That would put them on 37 points, which could be enough to pick up one of the two automatic spots.”

“That means we will absolutely need at least three points from our two fixtures to give us the best chances of going straight up, but even if we do need to go through the playoffs, that still means at least one, maybe even two more games of development for our younger players, which isn’t actually a bad thing when you look at it.” First order of business though will be to get a good result against AC Larne, who have won both of their last two fixtures and scored six times in the process, which means Boston will have to find a way to slow down their offense, while keeping the same kind of output they have generated in their last matches, with 20 goals scored in the last four games.
