Great Preston AFC, lost their first game of the season in spectacular fashion going down 4-1 to Baggies FC. The side remain top but confidence has been knocked, and Lassiano picked up a one week injury - which just happens to coincide with a midweek cup game, so arguably Great Preston's best midfielder misses two crucial games. The first an away cup trip to Midland FC.

Under Harris, the club initially shone in the cup winning back to back trophies in his first two seasons. However, the past two seasons have resulted in early exits, and the fans want a progression this time round.

Midland away is always a formidable task, and the draw has been unfavourable for Great Preston in this regard, but they will do their best to proceed!

One thing the injury has resulted in is, Etherington getting likely two starts in what will be crucial for his development. The 25 rated midfielder, really needs to hit 26 rated as soon as possible if he is to bolster Great Preston's midfield.

We sat down and spoke with Etherington earlier.

Interviewer: "Welcome, mate."

Etherington: 'Thanks, lad."

Interviewer: "You've featured in all 10 games this season, but all from the bench. Are you excited to possibly start later today?"

Etherington: "Of course. I am relishing my starting debut for the club. I have dreamt of a starting position at this proud club."

Interviewer: "you have featured for 268 minutes off the bench and made 6 key passes, are you pleased with your imapct off the bench?"

Etherington: "yes, but I need to get forward more to show my creativiity in the final third, I haven't had a shot yet so I am hoping I can rectify that today and on the weekend. I also want to ensure I am utilising my defensive capabilities to help the team break down oppsition attacks."

Interviewer: "You are known for your defensive work, and is this something you focussed on during your two seasons in the foreign leagues?"

Etherington "Abosloute;y. It was  abig focus of mine, it is such an important role. I have worked hard on my off the ball work particularly defensively."

Interviewer "Thank you, good luck this week!"

Etherington: Thanks, lad.

Etherington enjoyed a solid starting debut, but the side went down 2-0 to Midland FC (we think - can not fully remember ha!). The away side (us) had 17 shots but couldn't find a way past the opposition keeper. This has sparked two disappointing results in a row, after some excellent early season form.

Etherington managed an all round display adding some shots and a fair few key passes. However, in a top of the table clash later today, the talented youngster will again be called upon in the starting eleven as Lassiano misses another game through injury.

THe fans remain upbeat, but they can not fear a change in fortune. Hopefully this is only temporary and the likes of Wynalda and Gnonto can be more on target and get back on the scoreboard as soon as possible.
