They want applications for their presence at various venues by Friday, Sept. 23. We have a week, if we can come up with an idea, to apply. The idea would be to get kids, especially, to a performance/workshop with some sort of focus. Might be an opportunity for work with other neighborhood groups or our space users. See http://www.kennedy-center.org/nso/community/NSO_iyn.cfm for more details, and for a link to the application form. If we need to discuss, this Sunday would be the time!Joseph Casazza

Thank you for this excellent proposal, Michael. I think you have considered and included the breadth of our community. The only problem I see from the SSI point of view is that the night before, January 6th, is the proposed Epiphany happening at SSI with the Eucharist and the King’s Procession. Two days in a row, nay, three (including Sunday) might cut down on attendance from SSI congregation. But, it would just be a weekend of celebration and that would be fine by me. I am sure it would draw the wider community. As Frank pointed out when we were talking about this idea, we would have to find a solution to the lack of light so that musicians could read their scores. But I think that’s a small obstacle.
It would be very exciting to hear such lively sound in our acoustically wonderful space. Can’t wait.

Great proposal Michael and I like the way you have emphasized the connections to the larger community. In the liturgy planning group meeting we talked about involving kids in some way. Is there any way to include youth participation in the conceptual framework of the proposal that you have prepared?
I understand Sarabeth’s concern but maybe we can make this part of a Epiphany Weekend Celebration-just a thought.

I think the show and tell would be great…the “petting zoo for instruments,” I think NSO’s publicity stated it that way. There are lots of schools around: Lincoln Middle, Powell Elementary, Bell HS, Capital City PCS and then we have kids from Words, Beats and Life, Brainfood, Misa Alegria. Would probably not want to make invitation so broad that the children would comprise most of the congregation…but, I don’t know. We probably don’t have to hammer that out just yet.
Mary A, the date is only a small concern to me…While I think it may affect SSI attendance, I don’t think it would impact attendance from the broader community. I would love to celebrate the whole weekend.
