How to use autossh in conjunction with sshuttle?

In the documentation, there is a mention of autossh under "Additional Suggested Software". I am familiar with autossh, but how would I use it in conjunction with sshuttle?

Sorry, I have never used sshuttle with autossh, so can't help here.

sshuttle -e "autossh -M <xxxx>" ..  appears to work but on reconnect fails to setup the remote sshuttle server. I left a comment on the github issues page to this effect and I now suspect autossh has never worked with sshuttle. I hope someone will correct me if I'm mistaken. I put together this tool and it's worked well for keeping my tunnels up.
