Scholarship opportunities in Australia

The Australian Leadership Awards (ALA) Scholarships is one of the scholarship programs under the Australia Awards initiative which was launched by Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd in November 2009.
ALA Scholarships provide funding for study at Masters and Doctorate levels in Australia’s leading education institutions.  The program aims to develop leadership and linkages within the Asia-Pacific region.  The Scholarships are offered to high achievers from the region to undertake postgraduate study in Australia. In Myanmar, priority will be given to study programs addressing the following areas: health, water and sanitation, rural development and food security, basic education, protection of vulnerable populations, economic growth, gender, disability or environment.
As well as providing higher education degrees, ALA Scholarships also offer scholars the opportunity to participate in a program to strengthen their leadership skills, establish networks with scholars from other countries and enhance their understanding of regional development challenges.
Applications for the commencement of the 2011 academic year will close on 30 June 2010.
Requirements for an ALA Scholarship application include, but are not limited to*:
  • An Unconditional Letter of Offer from an Australian university;
  • Current and acceptable results from an IELTS or TOEFL test - see the scholarship webpage for details;
  • Not having held a foreign scholarship in the 24 months preceding the application closing date
  • Undertake to return to Myanmar for at least two years immediately upon completion of the ALA Scholarship program to help build the country’s capacity
*The information provided here is only part of the information that you need to consider before applying.
