Dear friends and colleagues,
I thought you might like to let your students and/or colleagues know about a Singapore-wide presentation competition that is happening this Saturday, 25 May, organised by the Institution of Engineering and Technology. There are prizes of up to $450 to be won for a good technical 10-minute talk. I have attached a poster for the event, and details are below. I’d be really grateful if you could help spread the word about this and encourage anyone you know with an interesting topic to participate. Spectators are also welcome!
Thanks and best wishes,
Hayden

Every year the Institution of Engineering and Technology, one of the world's largest professional institutions, holds a worldwide competition to find the best presentation on an engineering or technology-related subject.
If you are a student, apprentice or young professional aged between 18 and 26, this is your chance to compete. You just need to give a 10-minute presentation and be prepared to answer a further 5 minutes of questions.
The Singapore round of the competition will take place on Saturday 25 May, 2-5pm, in the Bluebell Room at Singapore Polytechnic Graduate Guild (directions: http://bit.ly/tqaYp4).
There will be a prize of $450 for the best presentation on the day, and a $225 runner-up prize. Refreshments will be provided and members of the public are welcome to spectate.
The winner of the competition on 25 May will go forward to the Asia-Pacific regional final, to be held in Brunei later this year. The winner of the Asia-Pacific final will be flown to London to compete in the international final towards the end of this year, with a prize of 1000 GBP (around $2000) up for grabs.
It is perfectly acceptable to use a presentation that you have already prepared -- such as a final year project presentation, a presentation from your graduate scheme, etc. The emphasis for judging is about 75% on presentation skills and 25% on technical content.
If you would like to compete, please send your name, affiliation, age, the title of your talk, and a 100-200 word synopsis to Hayden Taylor/Yvonne Ko at iet...@yahoo.com.sg by Thursday 23 May. Please inquire.
If you would like to attend as a spectator, please RSVP to the same e-mail address to that we can plan for catering. Please direct any questions to the same e-mail address.
We look forward to seeing you on 25 May!
