FYIP - As  per 'Taxation of Salaried Employees' chapter 8 of section 10 (10) of IT rules -any death cum retirement gratuity received by govt and defence employees shall be exempt from Income Tax.

For more info - www.incometaxindia. gov.in/DIT/income-tax-acts.aspx

So, go ahead and plan your investments on the entire sum (when you receive it,  hopefully soon).

Dear Shashi,

thanks for the info. Checked from NPO & IRLA Sections. Most of the gratuity docs have been returned twice with some funny reasons. NPO itself is lost about this matter.

Tk cr

Dear Sunotra

I hope you have followed following procedure during claiming
(a) Filled the application and submitted to your LOCAL BLO.
(b) The form you fill do not have any discription of SSC or PC.
(c) Chase up with LOCAL BLO for clearing up from LOCAL CDA.
(d) When your claim is passed by LOCAL CDA, it will issue a letter to NPO for release cleared amount to said officer's account with a copy to the individual.

In my case - No question asked till date by any person neither by Kochi BLO nor by Kochi CDA. Then i think Mumbai CDA are much more informative that any other CDA.

Well in my case Kochi CDA has cleared my FINAL TRANSFER GRANT and issued a letter to NPO for crediting my cleared amount in my account. Only thing was that an amount of Rs.20,000 was reduced from my claim under pretext no family movement details found for that im doing my paper work.

Hope with this you could gain any tips.
Please approach your LOCAL BLO, they will help you out.
