Minutes of the meeting
The day started off with too much of zeal in all of us which certainly
couldn't be measured. We were all extremely elevated to see Alma team in
our school today. The entire secretariat & grade 11th, gathered
themselves, all set and prepared to greet the Alma team in a room. We were
all highly delighted to see them enter. Our faces immediately lit up with
immense happiness. Our dear Anna, introduced them to us & the session
began with the introduction of Alma university by Anna. He mentioned few
informative points like The Alma university is about 128 years old & it is
well known for the liberal education it provides to the children.
Caroline, further added to it by mentioning that Alma college provides
inter disciplinary learning which means all the departments working
together which makes it different from studies in India.
This led to a question, put up by Ms. Caroline who was amazed to see how
early the children make choices of the subjects in India, in USA it is at
the university level that students make choices of their subjects.
She was curious to know the mind state of those who have been through the
situation. The answer was wonderfully given by proud Presidians Diksha &
Shamangi, who dictated their feelings. They mentioned that every coin has
two sides, opting for subjects too early is positive because it helps you
lay complete focus on the subjects you want to pursue in future & negative
as sometimes wrong decisions are taken by students & their minds aren't
completely set as to what subjects are to be opted.
Another question which was put up by another member of the Alma team was
what learnings have Presidians learnt from MUN's?
Presidians enthusiastically answered the question by mentioning one point
each which were summed up by Anna at the end.
Diksha said- it helps to enhance debating skills.
Shamangi said- meeting new people helps us increase interaction.
Sachneet said- we get an opportunity to display our view point on the
issue the world is facing.
Tanya said- It is something which helps in increasing the amount of
responsibility within us as we represent some country which we might not
have even heard of, we cannot just say anything and everything about the
country we are representing. We have to be well aware of the laws & should
be able to do justice with the country or nation we are representing.
Looking at the level of interest & zeal portrayed by the Presidians, Dr.
Derick couldn't resist himself by coming forward and speaking. He believes
that what matters the most in MUN is to realize your job that is figuring
out what you care about and pursuing it in most intensive & vigorous ways.
The world shouldn't be a restricted place for anyone. We should have a
broad approach towards everything around.
We were all amazed to see him speak. Since we didnt know the Alma team,
Anna decided we would begin with an informal interaction between the
students and Alma team. Presidians took over the opportunity and went
ahead to introduce themselves to the Alma team. It was highly delightful
to see everyone gelling with each other.
The students from both the sides now had a good rapport with each other.
They spent a good time conversing with each other. Once, this was over
Anna introduced the Alma team to the headmistress of Presidium, Ms. Kavita
Nath. She too had a small interaction with the students and stated that
the level of zeal among the Presidians is at peak. They are amazed to see
the Alma team & are motivating themselves to work with the team.
She next introduced the conviener of PMUN Mr. Sushant Kholsa who welcomed
the Alma team & greeted them. He further introduced the Sec Gen Ms. Prachi
Pahwa & DG Mr. Shouray Duggal, who also extended a warm welcome to the
Alma team & promised them that PMUN will be the best experience of their
lives. The Alma team then had a formal interaction with all the
rapporteurs. Various questions were put up by the rapporteurs. Anushka who
the the rapporteur of HRC greeted the Alma students by saying "Radhe
Radhe" which later was explained to them as a way of greeting in Indian
tradition by the Sec Gen.
A question was then asked by Rakshit, the rapporteur of OAS, " I respect
USA & appreciate the performance of the USA in every field, but USA as a
country is very dominating, why?"
This question left everyone present highly impressed. His question was
answered by the chair of OAS "i am highly impressed by the question put up
by you & i really appreciate it. US government is one of the most powerful
governments of the world. Every decision that it takes, it takes in the
favour of the people and with their consent. Whatever it work it may do,
it does with complete concentration. But yes, there are things where it
lacks too. It should focus on the environment factors as well."
The Alma team was not very fresh as they were suffering from jet lag. They
felt drowsy. They told the best part of Presidians was their excitement,
zeal and eagerness to work. They were happy to see Presidians talking
about the pressing issues of the world. After this, Riya was introduced as
a part of the crisis team, charge d' affairs. Riya had a short interaction
with all of them & then all of them proceeded towards lunch.
