Today, I played a game of opposites and describing words with my children.
It involved team building skills and life skills also, besides the
grammatical skills.


There were 32 chits, having 16 pairs of opposites written on them. For
e.g. one chit had 'sink' so the other had 'float'. So each chit had a word
in it, the opposite of which was written in another chit. All the chits
were mixed and kept in a box. Each child had to pick up a chit and find
his/her partner by finding the right opposite. So if I had got a chit
which says 'heavy', I had to look for my partner who had the chit that
read 'light'. The game didn't end here! Now once kids found their partners
they had to describe each other using the letters in their names.


For e.g. If Saanvi and Pranav ended up as a pair team, because one had a
chit that read 'dirty' and other had 'clean', so Saanvi had to describe
Pranav and Pranav had to describe Saanvi.

For e.g.
This was described by Saanvi :



P-Polite

R-Responsible
A-Amazing
N-Nervous
A-Active
V-Very good

This was described by Pranav:


S-Slow
A-Active
A-Adorable
N-Naughty
V-Very good
I-Innocent

Children came out  with some other amazing describing words like
'emotional','enthusiastic','slim','young' etc. which was a pleasure to
read.
I was so happy to read the responses of few students! Also there were few
students who were 'Being positive' and they didn't want to describe their
friend with a negative describing word. They did a lot of brain storming
thinking of a 'positive' describing word. For e.g. one girl wrote 'nice'
instead of 'naughty'  as she wanted to use all good words to describe her
friend.
In the end they described me as well :) in the following manner:

M-Magical
E-Elegant
G-Good
H-Honest
A-Active

This game actually entertained children and ended up as a fun filled
learning session! Sometimes enjoying such games with children gives us
too, altogether a beautiful feeling.

Behind the English Curriculum booklet, kids have made a table consisting
of all the letters of the alphabet i.e. from a to z. Each time they learn
a new word in the classroom  besides the text, mostly from the DEAR
session, IB games or activities , they write it there .I am sure this will
surely help them enhance their English vocabulary and help them learn,
retain and use new vocabulary words!
