Hi,

I'm very excited to announce we have secured a 2nd speaker for our meetup next Tuesday -- Josha Bach

When: Tuesday April 16th (food at 5:30 pm, talks start at 6:20 pm)

Please make sure to RSVP on AICamp ASAP!! (we likely have to send RSVP list to Microsoft security very soon)

Bio
Josha Bach is an iconoclastic cognitive scientist and researcher who is a well known figure in rationalist circles. He previously was a researcher at Harvard and was Principle AI Engineer at Intel's Cognitive Computing group between 2021-2023. He currently serves as AI strategist at Liquid AI and is on the advisory council of the AI Foundation.

Title:
Is the LLM the last invention humanity needs to make?

Abstract:
The success of LLMs is taking the world by storm. The Turing test seems to have been obliterated years ago, and more applications and use cases are unlocked every week. Yet many of us are skeptical: are LLMs sufficient to carry us all the way to AGI? Are they the way to creating superhuman intelligence, a transitional development, or a dead end?

Please come if you have an interest in AI safety! Rachel St Claire said she is looking to meet people from Effective Altruism and the AI safety community.

Regards,

Hi,

Just a quick update on this since people are asking -- Microsoft event management requested the RSVP list yesterday. So we had to close registration on AICamp.

They are saying they will not allow walk-ins. However, they said this last time and in actuality walk-ins were allowed (with gov-issued ID).

If you still want to attend but have not RSVP'd, please do the following:

2. RSVP on Meetup.com and have your registration confirmation email ready to show
3. Send me your email and/or phone (for WhatsApp). I will arrive early at 5pm and if they are letting in people who have not RSVP'd I'll let you know. Also if we reach room capacity (unlikely) I will update on that too.

Regards,

Hi,

Video recordings of the 3 talks from the AICamp x Boston ACX event that was held on April 16th are now on YouTube:

Rachel St Clair  "Scalable AI -- Lessons from Biological Architectures for Cognitive Ones"

Peter Sutor "Efficient and Robust Vision Learning with Hyperdimensional Computing"

Joscha Bach "Is the LLM the last invention humanity needs to make?"

The next Boston AICamp event will be on May 15th (RSVP here, also you can find it on Meetup here). We are looking for speakers. If you'd like to speak or recommend a speaker, please reach out. We are also looking for sponsors too (to pay for food & drink).

If you are not on the mailing list for Boston AICamp events, you can register here

Regards,
-- Dan
